Is Oscar Wilde’s the Picture of Dorian Gray Getting a TV Adaptation? Here’s All We Know

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for trends and a deep appreciation for classic literature, I am thrilled about Netflix’s new series, The Grays, which promises to modernize Oscar Wilde’s timeless novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. Having followed the careers of Rina Mimoun and Katie Rose Rogers, known for their exceptional work on Fellow Travelers, I am confident that this contemporary retelling will captivate audiences with its insightful commentary on society’s obsession with eternal youth and the beauty industry.

Netflix is working on a fresh TV production called “The Grays,” which derives its inspiration from Oscar Wilde’s timeless novel, “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” This upcoming series, produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, intends to reimagine Wilde’s tale by setting it against the backdrop of today’s beauty industry and exploring our collective fascination with everlasting youth in contemporary society.

In this new adaptation, Rina Mimoun assumes the role of both showrunner and executive producer. Meanwhile, Katie Rose Rogers is responsible for penning the series. The contemporary take on the story centers around siblings Basil and Doran Gray, who bring a fresh, gothic spin to the narrative for today’s viewers.

Katie Rose Rogers and her sibling Robbie Rogers, famed for their contributions to the Emmy-recognized show Fellow Travelers, will both assume roles as executive producers. Moreover, Lee Toland Krieger, who’s also set to direct, along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman from Berlanti Productions, will join them in these executive producer positions.

In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I can’t help but share my thoughts on Oscar Wilde’s timeless tale, “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” This captivating story revolves around the character Dorian Gray, who, under the guidance of the charismatic Lord Henry Wotton, makes a fateful bargain – his soul for eternal youth and charm.

Throughout the years, the story of The Picture of Dorian Gray has been transformed into numerous films. One notable rendition from 1945 featured George Sanders, Hurd Hatfield, and Donna Reed. This adaptation garnered Angela Lansbury a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In more recent times, a 2009 adaptation starred Ben Barnes and Colin Firth.

Rina Mimoun, previously with Berlanti Productions’ The Girls On The Bus, now steers The Grays as both showrunner and executive producer. Additionally, Lee Toland Krieger, known for his work on popular Netflix series like You, Dead Boy Detectives, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Superman & Lois for The CW, and the upcoming Brilliant Minds for NBC, is also part of The Grays’ team. Both Mimoun and Krieger have agreements with Warner Bros. Television.

Over the moon here! Can’t contain my excitement as I share this fantastic news: Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television are crafting a live-action Scooby-Doo! series for Netflix, and it’s official! This gem was snapped up by our beloved streaming platform in April with a massive investment – count me in!
