On his fall 2024 release, titled Beautifully Broken, Jelly Roll revealed that the song “Winning Streak” was sparked by a tale he encountered at an AA gathering. The track delves into the concept of addiction. Despite his occasional drinking habits and reputation for smoking marijuana, he has moved away from drugs that posed the greatest threat to him personally.
Previously, he battled against cocaine, painkillers, codeine, and other substances. Yet, this does not imply that he is completely abstinent all the time; rather, Jelly Roll attends Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings to maintain some connection with them. He admires those who achieve complete sobriety and refrains from sharing his personal experiences during these gatherings out of respect for others.
Jelly Roll shared a story about what happened one day in an AA meeting and how it led to him writing Winning Streak. According to him, there was an older man who spoke words of encouragement to a young person nearby saying “Nobody came in here on a winning streak.”
