‘It’s Fantastic’: Coraline and the Nightmare Before Christmas Director Henry Selick Reacts to the Movies’ Legacy Living On

As a passionate fan of Henry Selick’s enchanting work, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of gratitude and admiration for this visionary artist. His stop-motion masterpieces, Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas, have not only captivated generations but have also managed to maintain their timeless charm and appeal.

Henry Selick, a renowned stop-motion animator and director, has recently experienced some significant accomplishments as Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas hit important milestones. Reflecting on these films, the creator feels immense pride in having two movies so highly regarded today. However, he indicates that sequels for these films are unlikely to be produced in the near future.

Selick shares with GamesRadar+ in an exclusive chat, “It’s truly satisfying to put in a lot of effort on something that initially appears and disappears, but then endures for longer. In the case of The Nightmare Before Christmas, it has been passed down from the original fans’ children, now reaching the second generation, and soon the third. This sense of longevity is incredibly gratifying; it feels like all the hard work was worth it.”

As a longtime fan of stop-motion animation and a lover of unique storytelling, I’m thrilled to hear that Coraline, one of my all-time favorite films, is being re-released in theaters this summer for its 15th anniversary. Having grown up watching Coraline, I can still recall the sense of wonder and excitement it evoked in me as a child, and I’m eager to experience that magic again on the big screen.

Initially premiered in 1993, Tim Burton’s film The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of Jack Skellington, the ruler of Halloween Town, who embarks on an adventure to Christmas Town. In interviews, Burton has expressed his reluctance to produce a sequel, fearing it might over-exploit the franchise like some other movie series have done. Over time, there have been numerous speculations about a sequel for this classic Disney movie.

As a lifestyle expert discussing literature, I must share with you some intriguing updates regarding the beloved character, Coraline. While the renowned director Henry Selick has hinted at potential discussions about a sequel, as of now, no concrete plans have materialized.

Temporarily, the 3D re-release of Coraline will start playing in cinemas from August 15. Secure your tickets now. Meanwhile, you can stream The Nightmare Before Christmas on Disney Plus.
