As a lifestyle expert who has spent decades in the entertainment industry, I must say that Michael Keaton‘s nonchalant attitude towards the cancellation of Batgirl is nothing short of inspiring. His ability to move on from setbacks with grace and humor is a testament to his resilience and professionalism.
Michael Keaton’s portrayal of Batman remains iconic, despite numerous subsequent versions of the character. Originally slated to return as the caped vigilante in the Batgirl movie, that film has now been scrapped by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022. However, Keaton appears undeterred, despite the film being mostly finished.
Efforts were made online to release the movie, yet these attempts failed to shift the studio’s decision. For the time being, it seems the film has been indefinitely discarded and stored away.
Initially, Leslie Grace had been prepared to portray Batgirl, but unexpected circumstances kept her from flying next to Keaton’s Batman character. Alongside her, J.K. Simmons, Brendan Fraser were also part of the cast. Interestingly, Fraser was going to embody the villain Firefly in the production.
Recently, during an interview with GQ, Keaton shared his thoughts on the cancelation of the movie. Contrary to what one might expect – feeling sad – he appeared remarkably unfazed by the situation.
The actor remarked, “I really didn’t feel strongly about it, either way. It was a big, enjoyable project, but I got a nice paycheck.” His casual tone implies that the outcome of the Batgirl movie wasn’t something he worried about. Interestingly, he did show sympathy for the directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
Keaton expressed, “I really appreciate those fellows; they’re genuinely kind individuals. I’m rooting for them to thrive. It seems they experienced regret deeply, which in turn affected me negatively. As for me, I’m doing just fine.”
In addition to his involvement in Batgirl’s unfortunate storyline, Keaton once again took on the role of Batman in The Flash movie, which debuted in June 2023. This film received a variety of opinions from both critics and viewers, failing to make a significant impact at the box office. However, Keaton’s performance garnered much acclaim.
Regarding Arbi and Fallah, who were in charge of Batgirl, they felt a great deal of disappointment when the project was cancelled. However, they continued to commend the cast and crew’s commitment, describing it as an honor to collaborate with talented actors such as Simmons, Keaton, and Fraser.
55-year-old Brendan Fraser has also expressed his thoughts on the sudden termination of the Batgirl movie.
During a chat with Variety, the actor lavishly commended Leslie Grace’s captivating portrayal in Batgirl. He additionally discussed the real-world effects and narrative, aspects that had him thrilled. Regrettably, these plans didn’t materialize.
Although Batgirl’s storyline might be on hold temporarily, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is still progressing, with Superman: Legacy marking the beginning of its new phase.
