Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, shared at a recent Afro Women and Power event in Cali, Colombia on August 18th that her daughter, Princess Lilibet, is now expressing herself more confidently, similar to how she was encouraged to speak up by her mother Doria Ragland, as reported by PEOPLE.

During their four-day trip to Colombia, an occasion within Meghan and Prince Harry’s itinerary, focused on boosting the power of Afro-Colombian women. Kicking off her speech, Meghan honored the robust females in her personal sphere, specifically acknowledging her mother as a significant influence.

My methodology, when facing challenges, is less about engaging in conflict and more about making a positive impact by filling spaces with compassion, love, and generosity.

Meghan plays a supportive role in helping Lilibet discover her unique expression, an endeavor that holds great significance for her as a mother. “This is what truly moves me,” she expressed. She further shared her empathy toward the struggle of not being able to express oneself when one desires to be heard or has something meaningful to share. Encouraging her daughter, who at three years old has already found her voice, they take great pride in this accomplishment.

Additionally, the Duchess of Sussex shared insights on how her approach to parenting is shaped by her conviction that it’s crucial for both boys and girls to learn the power of expressing themselves effectively.

As a dedicated follower, I immersed myself in various cultural experiences, such as a tour at Escuela Tambores de Cabildo, the drum school of Cartagena, and on Sunday, I was part of the Afro Women and Power forum held in Cali. This event honored the accomplishments of influential Afro-Colombian women leaders and entrepreneurs from the region.

The event kicked off featuring accounts from local Black women in Colombia sharing their stories of overcoming hardship in their personal lives and professional careers. Notably, Meghan participated in a panel alongside Vice President Francia Márquez, and during performances by musicians Nidia Góngora and Cynthia Montaño, she also joined the dance.
