Rings of Power Season 2 Trailer Breakdown: Everything You Missed

As a long-time devotee of Middle-earth and its enchanting lore, I must confess that the upcoming second season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Rings of Power has me absolutely thrilled! From my years spent poring over Tolkien’s works and discussing the finer points of Elvish grammar with fellow fans, this series has been a delightful journey into familiar yet fresh territory.

As a longtime fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings saga, I can hardly contain my excitement for the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Rings of Power. Having grown up with the original films and reading the books multiple times, the chance to delve deeper into Middle-earth through this series is truly a dream come true. From what we’ve seen in the final trailer, it looks like the showrunners are taking us on a darker and more epic journey than ever before, which I believe will only enhance my appreciation for the rich world that Tolkien created. Can’t wait to tune in later this month!

At San Diego Comic-Con, a nearly four-minute sneak peek was unveiled, packed with unexpected twists and hinting at future events. One of these surprises is the introduction of characters known as Entwives, who caught fans off guard due to their unexpected appearance in the cast.

The teaser showcases the Siege of Eregion, the season’s major battle, expected to unfold in the final episodes. It also includes character-driven scenes, such as High King Gil-galad and Cirdan the Shipwright discussing the perils of the magic-infused rings. The video features a montage of ominous situations facing Middle-earth’s various groups.

As time goes by, some of the peculiar partnerships and patterns in season 2 start to make more sense. The bond between Celebrimbor and Annatar—one of Sauron’s many disguises—plays a crucial role in this season’s narrative. As hinted at in the first trailer, Annatar deceives Celebrimbor into crafting the Rings of Power.

Furthermore, the trailer suggests an unexpected alliance between Galadriel and Adar, head of the orc horde. It appears that Adar harbors doubts about Sauron, indicating a complex relationship. Yet, this could be a strategic manipulation in the editing process, hinting at a temporary collaboration between Galadriel and Adar.

Approximately at the 1 hour and 30 minute mark in the season 2 finale preview, there’s a significant disclosure. One of the numerous shocks preceding the return of the high fantasy show is the announcement that the second season will introduce, for the first time in live-action, a cherished character from The Lord of the Rings.

In an exciting twist, I find myself astonished by the revelation of a younger version of Saruman, one of Middle-earth’s five Wizards, in the upcoming tale. Contrary to what many might have expected, it seems that Ciarán Hinds, renowned for his roles in Treason and Belfast, will be embodying this character.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay serve as executive producers for “The Rings of Power,” a series that debuted in September 2022. You can catch the second season starting on August 29, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
