The tale of Walker Scobell’s missed opportunity to play Kidpool in Deadpool 3 is a perfect example of how life experiences can sometimes interfere with our dreams.
In the original plan, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy had several cameos they wanted to include, but not all of them ended up in the final version – one such planned appearance was by Walker Scobell as Kidpool. Given that Scobell portrayed a younger Reynolds in The Adam Project, which was also directed by Levy, it seemed like an ideal fit for his cameo. However, contrary to expectations, Scobell declined the opportunity!
In an interview with IGN, Scobell, aged 15, revealed discussions about him being part of the third sequel took place, but he felt it wasn’t suitable given his current growth and busy schedule with Percy. “There were some ideas floating around, like possibly Kidpool or Teen[pool],” he explained. “However, as I’ve grown and my schedule is packed with Percy, it didn’t align well for the timing.”
He recalled Levy calling him to discuss his potential cameo, which in itself was “crazy” for the actor. Scobell had a feeling that his version of Kidpool wouldn’t be a great fit, and he wasn’t surprised when Levy called to inform him about it.
“He phoned me to inform me that it wouldn’t take place, something I hadn’t anticipated would occur at all. To receive such a surprise, beyond anything I could have hoped for, is what he remembered.”
Scobell is currently busy shooting the follow-up to Percy Jackson. Compared to his role in the 2023 movie “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” he feels that he’s developed significantly more, referring to that experience as “unfortunate.”
He mentioned that, regrettably, there’s a significant change occurring with him, which might not align seamlessly with the consistency from the previous season, as he explained to the portal. Interestingly, Levy also attributed Scobell’s puberty as the reason behind his absence in Marvel’s recent blockbuster.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director shared that Walker Scobel had long desired to make a cameo in the movie. “If Walker Scobell hadn’t continued growing after puberty, he definitely would have been ‘Kidpool.’ It was his dream,” Levy quips, humorously implying that Scobel aspired for this role.
When they contacted him and Ryan, they discovered that the young performer was overly tall and had a voice unusually deep for the character of Kipool. “Puberty is an inevitable phase, and no amount of Hollywood aspirations can halt it. Therefore, we did contact Walker to explain why he couldn’t play Kidpool, and he graciously understood the situation,” the director explained.
