As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for dedication and a deep appreciation for artists who go above and beyond, I am thoroughly impressed by Andra Day‘s commitment to her craft. Her willingness to bear temporary tattoos of her on-screen children’s names for an extended period, even when told they would fade quickly, is a testament to her passion and immersion in her roles.
Actress Andra Day fully committed to portraying a mother tormented by a malevolent spirit in the movie “The Deliverance” by getting three temporary tattoos of her on-screen children’s names. Despite being informed that these tattoos would vanish within 9 to 13 months, they have yet to fade away from her skin.
She informed PEOPLE magazine that in April or May of 2022, they mentioned to her, “This will disappear within nine to 13 months.” However, as we stand now, she is embracing her role as a ‘pretend mother’ and finds humor in the mix-up when people assume she has three real children. “Oh, you think I have three kids?” she jokes. “Let me clarify, no, those children aren’t mine! Now I’m a pretend mom of imaginary children.”
On earlier occasions, Andra Day has demonstrated her commitment to a character. In the film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” (2021), she adopted habits like smoking, drinking, and weight loss to convincingly embody the jazz artist and activist, Billie Holiday.
In “The Deliverance,” the character portrayed by Day is Ebony, a mom battling alcohol addiction who encounters additional hardships when her kids are overtaken by a powerful supernatural entity. This film, based on true incidents in Indiana where a woman asserted her children required an exorcism, features performances from Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as well.
Initially wary due to the supernatural elements in the movie, Day ultimately found comfort through prayer and felt compelled to narrate the tale of a woman marred by flaws, striving for the best amidst her circumstances. Collaborating once more with director Lee Daniels, who had previously worked with her on Billie Holiday, brought about a feeling of comfort and familiarity.
On August 16, “The Deliverance” officially hits the big screen, and it’s set to arrive on Netflix towards the end of the same month.
