This drop isn’t about the earnings. It’s about expectations. Lofty, unrealistic expectations. It’s always about expectations.
In the last quarter, Nu grew revenue, net income, and deposits by 45%, 50%, and 29%. Active customers rose 15% to 131 million. Average revenue per customer jumped 15%. Impressive, if you like that sort of thing. Trading at 17 times forward earnings with a 28% ROE, it’s reasonably priced. For now. If they can get a banking charter in the U.S. and expand globally, maybe it’ll be worth something. Or maybe not. The universe doesn’t care about your portfolio. It just keeps expanding, indifferent to our little financial dramas. So it goes.
