Why Is Nick Carter Suing Rape Accuser Melissa Schuman? Exploring USD 2.5 Million Lawsuit

As a dedicated fan of the Backstreet Boys since their debut, I have to say this recent turn of events has left me feeling rather disheartened and confused. Nick Carter, a man I have admired for his talent and contributions to music, is now embroiled in a legal battle that paints a very different picture.

Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, has presented a legal retort to Melissa Schuman‘s allegations in a sexual assault lawsuit against him. In his newly submitted counterclaim, he denies all charges that Schuman brought forth and has additionally filed a countersuit seeking $2.5 million from her.

In April 2023, Melissa Schuman, a performer known for both singing and acting, sued Carter over accusations of sexual assault and battery, according to PEOPLE’s coverage of the court papers.

According to Dream member Schuman, Carter invited her to his Santa Monica, California apartment after filming The Hollow in 2004, a movie they both appeared in. She alleged that upon reaching Carter’s place, she was administered a sedative and then sexually assaulted by the Quit Playing Games singer. At the time of this incident, Carter was 22 years old and Schuman was only 18.

According to a statement made by PEOPLE on August 13, 2024, Carter claims that Schuman lied in her blog post when she initially accused the Drowning Pool singer of sexual assault in 2017.

According to Nick Carter’s rebuttal submitted to the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County on July 26, the singer asserts that Schuman subsequently provided additional support for her allegations in interviews and posted further damaging comments on social media.

In the documents he submitted, the singer of “I Want It That Way” claimed that Schuman made similar statements about him during press conferences and a documentary between September 2023 and May 2024. Additionally, Carter maintains that their sexual encounter was consensual.

According to a report by PEOPLE, Carter claims that Schuman is well-versed in his business dealings, and it appears to be an effort on her part to rejuvenate her career.

As a devoted supporter, I can affirm that my actions are intended to potentially harm my reputation and interfere with my business prospects, benefits, and agreements.

In response to all the allegations presented in Schuman’s lawsuit, Carter contends that her grievance does not provide sufficient factual details.

In response to Shannon Ruth’s accusations from December 2022 regarding sexual battery against Carter, the filing refutes those allegations. Interestingly, Carter responded with a lawsuit against Ruth in Nevada, stemming from her claim of rape that took place in 2001.

In response, Schuman’s attorney, Karen Barth Menzies, stated to PEOPLE “Carter’s California counter-claim makes the same arguments as his stalled Nevada lawsuit.”

Moreover, she mentioned that Carter was trying to justify his actions and simultaneously criticize the people affected by them.
