The latest installment in the Scream series, Scream 7, is now playing in theaters, delivering more of the franchise’s signature thrills. This time around, Sidney Prescott returns, determined to protect her daughter, Tatum. The film cleverly connects back to the original, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the first Scream movie. While you’ll have to see it to find out what happens, one thing is certain: Sidney will survive. How do we know? Because Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson are already starting to plan ideas for Scream 8.
We didn’t expect Sidney to return only to be killed off, and honestly, it’s a bit tiring to announce another sequel before the current film even has its moment in theaters. It’s not a bad idea to plan for the future, but maybe keep that quiet from fans for now.
I was reading an interview with Kevin Williamson over at Deadline, and he said they’ve already been brainstorming ideas for Scream 8! He said while they were on set late one night, they started just throwing around ideas, and Neve Campbell actually had a really cool one that everyone loved. Basically, if this new movie does well and people want another one, they’re totally up for it – they really want to deliver for the fans, and if we want it, they’ll make it happen!
The Scream movies have such a strong and loyal fanbase that it’s almost certain we’ll see a ninth film, despite the recent movie receiving mixed reviews. Let’s be real – everyone loves a profit, and if audiences keep paying to see Ghostface cause trouble, there’s no reason to stop Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson from delivering more. We can expect an announcement about Scream 9 eventually, and it’s likely we won’t see it until around 2028, giving Neve time to develop her ideas.
