New Netflix Documentary Goes Viral Around the World With 14 Million Views in Seven Days

The new docuseries Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model quickly became a hit, topping streaming charts recently. Between February 16th and 22nd, the three-part series garnered an impressive 14.2 million views, making it the most-watched program on the platform for that week.

The series takes a candid and sometimes disturbing look back at the popular 2000s reality competition, exploring long-standing controversies. It features interviews with former winners, judges, and contestants, offering fresh perspectives on their experiences. Notably, Tyra Banks, the show’s original creator and host, also participates, sharing her thoughts on the show’s impact and the criticism it has faced.

Although recent news focused on issues with modeling, several popular shows still attracted large audiences for the streaming service. The new season of the thriller The Night Agent started strong, earning 8.4 million views in its first week. Bridgerton, the historical romance, continued to be a hit with 6.3 million views, even after four weeks. International shows also performed very well. The Korean mystery The Art of Sarah reached 10 million views in its second week, and European series like the German spy drama Unfamiliar and the Polish epic Lead Children weren’t far behind, demonstrating that viewers are happy to watch shows with subtitles.

Tyler Perry’s comedy Joe’s College Road Trip remained the most-watched film on the platform for a second week, earning 10.4 million views. Interest in director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi films also grew, with Prometheus (2012) jumping to number two with 6.6 million views.

Meanwhile, the animated hit KPop Demon Hunters continued to perform strongly, staying on the charts for an impressive 36 weeks and gaining another 6 million views. The popularity of Reality Check coincides with a career resurgence for Tyra Banks, who has also been focusing on her ice cream company, SMiZE & DREAM.

Reality Check has sparked a lot of discussion online about the early days of reality TV, suggesting that more in-depth looks at the past are coming. The streaming service has announced a future project exploring the history of teen tabloids from the mid-2000s, and it will likely feature several former Disney Channel stars.
