I was cracking up hearing Timothée Chalamet talk about his experience working with Matthew McConaughey on Interstellar! Apparently, they were at a talk at the University of Texas, and Timothée shared this really funny story. He said that on Matthew’s last day of filming, he left a… well, a pretty strange ‘souvenir’ in Timothée’s trailer! It’s wild to think about those two playing father and son, and then to hear about something so unexpected happening behind the scenes.
Timothée Chalamet, who was only 17 during filming, remembers being sad when his time on the set of Interstellar ended. But that feeling quickly changed when he went back to his trailer. He was shocked to find a large mess in his bathroom.
“I was really sad to be leaving,” Chalamet told an audience, then described the unpleasant surprise. He was deeply offended and wondered which crew member would do something so disrespectful.
He even asked the grips if anyone had been responsible, but they all denied it. It wasn’t until he spoke with director Christopher Nolan that he found out who the culprit was – Nolan simply pointed to Matthew McConaughey.
I heard this hilarious story about Matthew McConaughey and Timothée Chalamet on set! Apparently, McConaughey, who was around 56 at the time, totally owned up to pulling a prank on Chalamet – a really stinky one, involving his trailer! When Chalamet, understandably, asked him why, McConaughey just gave him that classic Texas grin and said, “In Texas, it’s a coming of age, baby.” He framed it as a way of bonding, a rite of passage for them as father and son in the film. It’s amazing to think about now, especially since Chalamet’s become this huge Oscar nominee – he’s 30 now and looks back on the whole thing as a genuinely funny “true story.” They’ve stayed close over the years, with Chalamet still calling McConaughey his “movie dad.” It’s become this legendary story from the making of the film, and it’s clear both of them still have a lot of affection for that experience.
Honestly, Timothée Chalamet is everywhere right now! I just saw Marty Supreme – it’s fantastic, a really cool sports drama set in the 50s about a ping-pong hustler, and everyone’s talking about it. Plus, the cast is wild – Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, even Kevin O’Leary! And get this, he’s already gearing up to go back to Arrakis for Dune: Part Three, which is coming out December 18th. There’s even buzz he might be doing a heist movie with James Mangold, the guy who directed him in that Bob Dylan film. Speaking of busy actors, Matthew McConaughey is on a roll too. I heard he was amazing in The Lost Bus, a tough drama about the California wildfires, and he’s apparently close to signing on for a new Netflix series from the creator of True Detective. It sounds like we’re going to be seeing a lot of great work from both of them soon!
