Charlie Cox Shares Thoughts on Daredevil: Born Again As He Prepares To Return As Matt Murdock; ‘It Was Shocking…’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for detail and an extensive background in pop culture, I am genuinely thrilled about Charlie Cox’s return as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again. Having followed his career since the acclaimed Netflix series, it is heartening to see a beloved character get another chance to shine.

Actor Charlie Cox has confirmed he’ll once again play the role of Matt Murdock, a cherished Marvel character, in the upcoming Disney+ series titled “Daredevil: Born Again.” Joining him is Vincent D’Onofrio, reprising his iconic role as Wilson Fisk, better known as Kingpin. Cox was taken aback upon hearing he would resume his portrayal of Matt following the cancellation of his successful Daredevil series in November 2018.

Charlie Cox and his fellow star Vincent D’Onofrio recently went to the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim. Here, they spoke with People magazine about their upcoming series. When asked by the publication how he felt about coming back as Matt Murdock in the reboot, Cox expressed that he was “taken aback.” He continued, “We’ve developed a joke. I believe we wrapped up shooting the original show at the end of 2016 or early 2018, and found out it had been canceled sometime during that timeframe.”

In the heart of 2020, I received a call from Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, expressing their desire to reintroduce my characters. Initially, it was unclear to us how this would transpire; at that moment, we weren’t even part of the series, merely being considered for inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Years later, when Cox didn’t get a call regarding the show, he had already moved on and stopped thinking about it. Occasionally, during this period, he would exchange conversations with his co-star D’Onofrio, who would express hopes like, “They’ll definitely call us.”

He thought Vincent was clinging to irrational ideas and felt it was time to move on because it’s been almost ten years. He found it astounding, considering the quality of the Daredevil show.

As per the report, by July 2024, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, hinted on the Marvel Podcast about the forthcoming series. Winderbaum stated that Daredevil is remarkable and, in certain aspects, resembles X-Men ’97 as it resurrects something cherished by fans, but this time, it’s venturing into uncharted territory.

He noted that the characters have matured, the universe has evolved, and society has changed. Winderbaum continued by saying that Matt [Murdock] and Wilson [Fisk] have changed, and their characters will “collide” in ways we have never seen before, adding that there’s a “whole game of politics at play.”

Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ in 2025.
