Right. So, another SEC filing. Honestly, it’s like watching paint dry, except the paint is made of… well, let’s get to that. Palo Duro Investment Partners, they’ve been buying Darling Ingredients. 632,050 shares. In Q4. It sounds… substantial. And not just in terms of the monetary value – around $22.75 million, apparently. It’s the Darling Ingredients bit that’s intriguing. A name that doesn’t exactly scream “growth stock,” does it?
It represents 6.8% of their 13F reportable assets. Which, if you’re not familiar with the jargon (and frankly, who isn’t a little lost in it all?), is a significant chunk. It means they’re putting their money where… well, where the animal by-products are, as it turns out.
Current top holdings, as of December 31st, 2025. A list. I do love a list. It feels… organized. Even if my own life isn’t.
- Antero Resources: $66.63 million (20.0% of AUM)
- Gulfport Energy: $46.30 million (13.9% of AUM)
- Chord Energy: $42.64 million (12.8% of AUM)
- Baker Hughes: $41.51 million (12.4% of AUM)
- Permian Resources: $38.13 million (11.4% of AUM)
Darling Ingredients shares were at $53.08 on February 25th, 2026. Up 34.8% over the year. Outperforming the S&P 500 by 19 percentage points. Which, let’s be honest, is a relief. I mean, you put your money somewhere hoping it won’t just… disappear. A 19-point outperformance is… encouraging.
Here’s a quick rundown of the numbers, just in case you’re into that sort of thing (I am, secretly):
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Price (as of market close 2/25/26) | $53.08 |
| Market capitalization | $8.40 billion |
| Revenue (TTM) | $6.14 billion |
| Net income (TTM) | $62.80 million |
So, what do Darling Ingredients actually do? Apparently, they take animal by-products, used cooking oil, residual bakery products… and turn them into things. Collagen, edible fats, animal protein, organic fertilizer, bioenergy feedstocks. It’s… resourceful. A bit like me, attempting to make a gourmet meal out of leftovers. Except, you know, on an industrial scale. They operate across North America, Europe, China, South America, and Australia. A truly global operation. It’s all very… efficient. And, dare I say, slightly impressive.
Units of Waste Processed: Uncountable. Hours Spent Analyzing SEC Filings: Increasing. Number of Times I’ve Said “By-Products” Today: 7.
What does this mean for investors? Well, Palo Duro clearly thinks it’s a good bet. And they’re not exactly amateurs. The stock is up nearly 50% in early 2026, and they recently reported a 21% rise in sales and a 16% increase in adjusted EBITDA. A good quarter. Very good. I’ll be watching closely to see what Palo Duro does next. Add to the position? Hold? Sell? The suspense is almost unbearable.
From a purely logical standpoint, Darling Ingredients is… interesting. It’s a “trash-to-treasure” investment. They refine these by-products into feed, food, and fuel derivatives. Protein for animal feed, collagen for certain foods, green diesel. The fuel business is a bit cyclical, naturally. But the rest of their operations are solid. Over the last decade, sales and free cash flow have grown by 5% and 15% annually. Not flashy, but steady. And trading at 12 times FCF – even after a 50% rise this year – Darling Ingredients seems reasonably valued. A cornerstone stock, perhaps? For those seeking stability with market-beating potential.
Darling Ingredients just grew sales by 21% in its most recent quarter. Which is… substantial. So, yes. I’ll be watching Palo Duro very closely. Because sometimes, the most unlikely investments turn out to be the most rewarding. And frankly, after a year like the last one, a little bit of reward is very welcome indeed.
