Some Fans Oppose Wesley Snipes’ Blade in the MCU Due to Alleged History of Abuse in Hollywood

As a seasoned gamer with a rich history of immersing myself in various virtual worlds and comic book universes, I find myself torn when it comes to the potential return of Wesley Snipes as Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The iconic portrayal of this character played a significant role in my early years of gaming and comics, but recent revelations about Snipes’ alleged past behavior towards his co-stars and partners have left me questioning whether he deserves another shot.

The duo of Deadpool and Wolvernotablely resurrected a host of iconic Marvel figures from past stories, such as the Human Torch portrayed by Evans, Elektra embodied by Garner, and particularly, Blade played by Wesley Snipes.

In simpler terms, if you’re not as acquainted, the initial Blade trilogy plays a crucial role in Marvel’s past. After Marvel faced bankruptcy in 1996, the release of Blade (1998) played a significant part in improving its standing – more in terms of industry and public image rather than just financially. Blade was not only a box office success but also paved the way for making less popular characters famous, by utilizing an actor’s talents effectively, and creating superhero films that audiences could easily relate to.

Due to his memorable performance as Blade, many people, including Ryan Reynolds, have been vocal on social media about wanting Blade to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They’ve suggested that if he does join, it should be in a swansong-style film reminiscent of “Logan.”

Yet, the heightened focus on the duo of Deadpool and Wolverine has likewise uncovered some concerning facets of Snipes’ background. It’s known that certain fans are cognizant of his rumored past involvement in abusive behavior.

Originating from where exactly are these allegations? Let’s trace it back to Jennifer Lopez. Lopez worked alongside Snipes in the 1995 movie “Money Train.” For those of you who are newer to the scene, it’s important to know that Snipes was quite a big deal at the time and held considerable power within the entertainment industry. This film came out before “Blade,” and Lopez, who was just starting her career, is said to have had a challenging experience collaborating with Snipes during this project.

During an interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, the actress revealed that Snipes coerced her into acting out a specific sexually explicit scene against her will.

Oh dear, it was quite an ordeal. It marked my debut, my initial major part in a substantial film production. And to make matters more daunting, I was required to perform a love scene. You see, while I had experience with kissing and caressing, this was my first time taking on a full-blown sex scene, which understandably left me feeling quite anxious.

In the early stages of my professional life, I found myself in situations where I felt compelled to accept tasks, even when I thought they were unnecessary. At the time, I lacked the confidence to assert myself and refuse work. If only I had been more assertive earlier, I might have stood up for my beliefs better. However, as a newcomer, I didn’t feel it was within my rights to simply say “No” outright.

I’ve seen my fair share of films, and from my perspective, this one just doesn’t seem to be something we truly need. It’s not like the kind of movie that resonates with me or leaves a lasting impact. As an action movie enthusiast, I can tell you that it falls short in terms of delivering the adrenaline-pumping moments and intricate plotlines that I’ve come to expect from this genre. In my opinion, it’s simply not up to par with the scripts that I’ve seen before.

As a film enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I must say that I’ve seen some questionable additions to scripts during production. However, when it comes to inserting unnecessary sex scenes, it’s a line I find myself drawing firmly. It seems that in the pursuit of sensationalism and box office appeal, some producers and stars forget that art should serve a purpose beyond mere titillation. In my opinion, these scenes not only disrupt the flow of the story but also tarnish the integrity of the project as a whole. It’s disheartening to see such blatant disregard for the audience’s intelligence and the potential of a good storyline. Such behavior from those involved in the production process can leave a bad taste in the mouths of both critics and viewers alike, making me wonder if they truly value their craft or just their own egos.

At that moment, he was a major figure with considerable influence, while I was still finding my footing and making my way. It was a significant opportunity for me, my big breakthrough. However, the pressure was intense. He warned me that if the scene didn’t have enough impact, my role might be cut out during post-production. This could potentially harm my career, as I might acquire a reputation for being hard to collaborate with.

In retrospect, the experience was truly discomforting. At that time, we were both unclothed, with only a sock serving as a barrier for him. My innocence was profound back then; I didn’t realize the importance of having blankets, pillows, and other barriers to maintain physical distance.

As a woman who has spent decades in the entertainment industry, I have encountered my fair share of inappropriate behavior. One particular incident stands out as particularly distressing. This famous actor, known for his charm and charisma, crossed a line during our first meeting. He made unwanted advances, groping me inappropriately and attempting to kiss me without my consent. I felt violated and vowed never to work with him again. It’s been years now, and it seems like karma has caught up with him as his career has taken a downturn. It’s unfortunate that he had to learn this lesson the hard way, but I hope his fall from grace serves as a warning to others in the industry. #TimesUp #MeToo

In a disturbing turn of events, this situation is problematic for an up-and-coming actor, but Halle Berry’s ordeal appears to be far more severe. Although Berry has not publicly confirmed these accusations, hints from her ex-spouse and contextual clues seem to implicate Wesley Snipes in the abuse.

Berry and Snipes had a brief, turbulent romance following their collaboration on “Jungle Fever“. This relationship swiftly became notorious for its excessive abuse, with allegations suggesting that Berry endured severe physical injuries, including a debilitating hearing loss, as a result of the attacks.

“I undervalued myself, believing I wasn’t deserving. I unconsciously picked partners who resembled my father. It wasn’t until I was in an abusive relationship and there was a violent incident resulting in blood on my apartment ceiling and significant hearing loss in one ear that I understood, it’s time to stop this pattern.”

In public discourse, Halle Berry never explicitly pointed out her abuser’s name. However, her former spouse, David Justice, once suggested that she had privately identified Wesley Snipes as the individual in question. Despite numerous assumptions linking Justice to the role of the abuser, Berry clarified years ago that it was not him.

It’s said that during the filming of the initial Blade trilogy, Snipes was often hard to collaborate with. Stories have surfaced alleging difficult behavior from him, particularly in interactions with his fellow actors such as Ryan Reynolds and director David S. Goyer.

One possible explanation for why the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t delved back into one of Marvel Comics’ most thriving and lucrative series might be this.
