In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Jamie Lee Curtis discussed Freaky Friday 2, the upcoming sequel to her popular 2003 film. Unlike the original where Chad Michael Murray was cast as Lindsay Lohan’s love interest Anna, the new installment features Manny Jacinto from The Acolyte, who will play Curtis’ on-screen spouse and husband in the movie instead.

Previously, Disney had revealed that Manny would be part of the upcoming sequel. During a recent chat with an interview outlet, Halloween Ends actress Jacinto hinted, “Manny portrays Lindsay’s husband in the film, but we can’t reveal much more as we’re still in the midst of shooting the sequel.” Lohan additionally expressed her positive sentiments about Manny, stating, “Manny is simply delightful and quite humorous.”

Simultaneously, it’s been confirmed that Chad Michael Murray, who played Jake earlier, will rejoin the cast. Two weeks from now, they are expected to finish filming for the movie. In a chat with Variety, the actress shared her excitement about his return, mentioning that just seeing him on set brought a palpable energy. She reminisced about their table read and said, “As soon as the Chad Michael Murray character enters the narrative, I assure you, the whole room’s atmosphere shifts dramatically.”

The actress from Everything Everywhere All at Once commented that every woman in attendance was leaning in closely, and she received applause. Later, she approached the director and producers, saying they should develop the character of Jake further because he’s exceptional, as his role is simply fantastic. She went on to say that fans can expect Jake’s return in a significant way for the sequel.

In the official summary, we find out that Freakier Friday will have a unique take on multiple generations. The story continues from where Tess Coleman (Curtis) and Anna Coleman (Lohan) encountered a body-swapping dilemma after consuming enchanted fortune cookies from a Chinese restaurant. Now, Anna has a daughter and a stepdaughter-to-be, and they are all trying to adjust to their new family situation. As they deal with the complexities of bringing two families together, Tess and Anna realize that a similar strange event might occur again.

Meanwhile, Nisha Ganatra’s Freakier Friday will be released in theaters sometime in 2025.
