Marvel Shares Major Updates About X-Men ’97 Season 2 At D23 Expo Ft. Wolverine, Magneto, Polaris & More

As a lifestyle expert with over three decades of immersion in the Marvel Universe, I must say that the revelation of X-Men ’97 season 2 at D23 was like finding a long-lost mutant ally in a crowded convention hall. The anticipation for this animated continuation has been palpable since its announcement in 2024, and the first season 2 footage only served to stoke the flames of excitement even higher.

In 2024, Marvel Studios unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming second season for X-Men ’97, the highly anticipated animated series that picks up where X-Men: The Animated Series left off. With fans everywhere eagerly counting down the days, Disney+ has yet to announce an official release date for this exciting new installment in the X-Men saga.

At the thrilling D23 2024 Marvel Animation showcase where Screen Rant was lucky enough to be present, I couldn’t contain my excitement when they revealed the long-awaited Season 2 of X-Men ’97! After the mind-blowing finale of season 1, it felt like a dream come true to finally catch a glimpse of the first footage from season 2.

As an overly enthusiastic fan, I can’t help but share my excitement after catching a glimpse of what’s to come in X-Men ’97 season 2! It seems like we’re going to welcome some fresh faces into the team, and one of them is none other than Danger! You know, based on that iconic training facility from the X-Men lore – the Danger Room at the X-Mansion. In the comic books, it’s been hinted that the Danger Room develops self-awareness and starts playing a more active role in the mythology. Can’t wait to see how they bring this to life on screen!

In X-Men: The Animated Series, Lorna Dane, also known as Polaris, was one character among many. However, in X-Men ’97 season 2, the spotlight will shift more towards one of Magneto’s offspring, with Polaris set to make a significant appearance. Although she made a brief appearance in season 1, viewers were introduced to an older version of her then. As of now, the voice actor for Polaris in X-Men ’97 season 2 remains unannounced.

Here are the top 5 moments from D23.

1. Wolverine gets his Adamantium claws back

After Magneto took away his metallic claws, Wolverine reappeared, now wielding his freshly forged Adamantium claws. A brief preview depicts him saying “I’m back,” demonstrating their use.

2. New villains

In this scene, you’ll notice Lady Deathstrike and Sabretooth standing at the brink of a fight against the X-Men. A related clip hints that Nightcrawler, dressed in traditional Japanese attire, is engaging ninjas, implying that the X-Men might journey to Japan, potentially coming face to face with Lady Deathstrike.

3. Polaris

In this preview, Polaris – Magneto’s green-haired metal-bending daughter – appears not once, but twice. Initially, she is spotlighted individually, then later, she engages in combat alongside Forge. Voice actress Terri Hawkes reprised her role as Polaris from the 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series.

4. The Danger

In this rephrased version: “The Astonishing Era, penned by Joss Whedon and illustrated by John Cassaday, unveiled the self-aware embodiment of The Danger Room. Following an upgrade using Shi’ar technology, the room developed a consciousness and eventually manifested in female form, aiming for vengeance against the X-Men. Adopting the name Danger, we get a glimpse of her design from X-Men ’97, and she appears to be quite menacing.”

5. Grant Morrison era emerges

Following the achievement of the X-Men movie series, the comic books underwent a transformation, sporting a sleek black leather aesthetic, with innovative designs by Frank Quietly. A sneak peek showed Scott and Jean wearing these new outfits and executing a joint move, resulting in Cyclops’ optic beam splitting into prismatic shards from his eyes.

2025 is when we’re likely to see the second season of X-Men ’97, following the releases of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Eyes of Wakanda, and Marvel Zombies by Marvel Studios. A new trailer might drop on Disney+ before 2024 ends, and for now, fans can stream X-Men ’97 season 1 exclusively on this platform.
