As a passionate manga enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of Weekly Young Jump, I must say that the temporary hiatus of “The Days of Diamond” has left me feeling like I’ve just been benched during the final innings of a thrilling game. The story of Jiro Ayasegawa, a diamond in the rough with a talent for baseball, resonates deeply with my own experiences as a fan who’s seen too many promising talents forced to shine under the glaring floodlights before they were ready.
The official account for Shueisha’s seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump, previously known as Twitter, posted a notice indicating that the serialization of The Days of Diamond will take a two-week hiatus. Initially planned for release in the combined special issues 36 & 37, this break affects those specific publications.
As a devoted fan, I’m here to share some news about “The Days of Diamond.” Unfortunately, due to personal circumstances, the mangaka had to suspend the series temporarily. However, good news! The next installment will be published in the magazine’s 39th issue on August 29, 2024. I want to extend my apologies for the delay, as I know many of us have been eagerly waiting for the next chapter. “The Days of Diamond” first started its serialization in February 2023, and it’s also available in English on Shueisha’s Manga Plus web platform for those who prefer reading in that language. Stay tuned for more updates!
Shueisha has compiled each chapter into separate tankōbon books. The debut volume came out on June 19, 2023, and so far, six volumes have been made available. The manga titled “Diamond no Kozai” narrates the life of Jiro Ayasegawa, a fifth-grade student who is exceptionally talented in baseball.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but gush over Jiro’s extraordinary skills on the baseball field. He’s got a knack for the game that seems as natural as breathing, yet there’s something unique about him – he lacks the fiercely competitive spirit often associated with top-tier players. Instead, he plays for the joy of it, which is exactly what makes him stand out.
The comic book, known for its portrayal of the grim truths beneath the glamour of sports, has garnered significant popularity. Jiro exhibits an innate talent for baseball, yet is compelled by elders to perform on grander stages, against his desires. Instead, all he yearns for is simple joy in playing the game. Regrettably, everyone around him presses him towards becoming the best. Additionally, the comic delves into numerous other relatable themes such as camaraderie and deceit.
Jiro shares some resemblances with Shohei Ohtani, an exceptional MLB player who recently signed a remarkable 10-year deal worth approximately $700 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers, breaking all previous sports records. Like Jiro, Shohei’s baseball journey began in his second year of elementary school, when he was essentially an undiscovered gem. Keep an eye out for further developments in The Days of Diamond Manga!
