As a long-time Pixar enthusiast who has grown up watching the studio’s groundbreaking films, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on the announcement of Toy Story 5 at D23 Expo 2024. Having followed the evolution of this iconic franchise since its inception, it feels like coming full circle to see Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter unveiling their first true franchise.
Over the past three decades, since the initial release of Toy Story, pioneering digital animation, Pixar has been matched and surpassed by the world’s advancements. Today, YouTube and mobile games have captured the emotional connection once reserved for toys and puppets in a child’s heart. If you felt Woody was outdated in 1995, he seems archaic now. It was wise of Pixar to revisit that story.
As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that it’s been since 2016’s heartwarming “Finding Dory” that we’ve seen Stanton at the helm of a project. But what truly gets me pumped is the fact that he’ll be directing a Toy Story movie for the first time! With Toy Story 5 slated for release in 2026, I can hardly contain my excitement!
