Writers Reveal Deadpool Almost Fought All the Avengers in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

As a die-hard fan of Marvel movies, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment that we didn’t get to see Deadpool squaring off against the Avengers in all his chaotic glory. The idea of him picking up Thor’s Hammer, only for it to be casually lifted by Peter (Rob Delaney) in the background, is just too hilarious not to imagine.

Many moviegoers eagerly await the release of this year’s standout film, a joint appearance by Deadpool and Wolverine, with Hugh Jackman portraying Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. This blockbuster hit, currently delighting audiences worldwide, is filled with Easter Eggs that fans are diligently hunting for and tallying.

Although a good number of Easter Eggs found their way into the film, there were also several intriguing scenes that came close to being included, but ultimately didn’t make it due to different factors. One of these discarded scenes appears to have been quite fascinating.

To clarify, it has come to light that the film’s creators had a number of intriguing concepts for the movie, not all of which were included in the final version. One particularly engaging idea was a scene featuring Deadpool and the Avengers, which the writers elaborated on extensively, and we will be discussing this concept further.

In an exclusive chat with IndieWire, the creative minds behind Deadpool and Wolverine – Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – disclosed some intriguing behind-the-scenes tidbits about the film’s development. One particularly captivating detail was a scene hinting at Deadpool engaging in a unique battle against all the Avengers. This revelation stems from their statement that:

Wernick: Here’s something we haven’t shared before: Initially, there was a scene idea, not written but conceived early on, where all the Avengers were together. In this scenario, Deadpool got turned down and then he criticized the Avengers in his unique way.

Reese: He had some explosive reactions planned towards all of them, becoming quite aggressive and harshly criticizing each one.

After that, the writers proceeded to explain what would have happened in that scene:

Give me your favorite vicious attack against an Avenger.

Reese: He was definitely going to try to pick up Thor’s Hammer. We did have that in there.

It seems that Rob Delaney, or perhaps Peter, had entered the room, and there, in a rather casual manner, Peter grabbed Thor’s hammer.

Reese: Oh, yes! In the background, Peter playfully grabbed Thor’s Hammer as a joke. That’s what happened. You’re spot on. You’re completely correct. Originally, Peter was there with him. There weren’t any script pages for it, but that was the concept of the scene. I recall suggesting that he would try to get Captain America to swear. I can’t remember much else about the specifics, but yes, he intended to scold them both.

You know what that scene sounds like? It sounds expensive.

As a die-hard fan, I can only marvel at the intricate schedule Reese faced while coordinating his cameo in “Deadpool 2”. Imagine the challenge of gathering the entire X-Men cast for a scene when they were all busy shooting their own movie! Fortunately for us, Simon Kinberg managed to do it on their set. However, here, things were different. It would have been like assembling Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, and Michael Jackson simultaneously for the “We Are the World” documentary – an impossible feat indeed.
