Robert Pattinson recently shared with director Bong Joon Ho in GQ that getting older hasn’t made him braver – especially when it comes to horror. The 39-year-old actor admitted he used to enjoy exploring dark and disturbing themes with a detached, artistic perspective, but now he’s become too sensitive to handle the intensity. He finds it ironic that people often assume you become less easily scared as you age. Pattinson joked that he’s actually become more vulnerable to horror and can’t watch horror movies anymore.
Bong Joon Ho, the director of Robert Pattinson’s new sci-fi film Mickey 17, joked that becoming a father might be making Pattinson more sensitive. Pattinson admitted parenthood probably contributed to the change, but explained it actually started before his daughter was born in early 2024.
Both filmmakers chuckled about how life events can unexpectedly make an actor less intense. Pattinson shared a story to illustrate this, recalling a night he became incredibly paranoid after watching a horror movie before a meeting.
He was so convinced someone was trying to break into his house that he grabbed two kitchen knives and sat on the sofa, fully armed. The situation became even stranger when he fell asleep on the couch with the knives next to his face, where he was later found by his partner, Suki Waterhouse, who was understandably confused.
I recently learned that my favorite actor struggles with some surprisingly relatable anxieties! It’s not just spooky stuff or worrying about his home being invaded – he actually gets really nervous about dance sequences. Apparently, while filming his new movie, Die, My Love, he was totally intimidated by how naturally graceful Jennifer Lawrence and the director, Lynne Ramsay, were.
He said he was sweating buckets on the day they shot a dance scene and almost had a complete meltdown unless they either tightly choreographed everything or cut it altogether. But instead of giving him what he asked for, everyone told him to just relax and move with the music.
He even joked they basically told him to get over himself! It’s funny because he’s known for playing these intense, complicated characters, but he’s also really good at making fun of himself. It just shows how vulnerable he is, and it’s something I’ve noticed throughout his career.
Robert Pattinson is having a remarkably busy and successful year. Early in 2025, his film Mickey 17, a collaboration with acclaimed director Bong Joon Ho, was released to rave reviews, featuring him in the challenging role of multiple disposable clones in a futuristic world.
This success has created high expectations for his next film, the romantic thriller The Drama, starring Zendaya, which is expected in April. Later this year, he’ll appear in Christopher Nolan’s large-scale fantasy epic, The Odyssey, slated for release in July.
He’s also reprising his role as Bruce Wayne in The Batman Part II, with filming planned to begin this spring for a release in October 2027. Balancing a demanding schedule with his new role as a father, Pattinson continues to be one of Hollywood’s most talented and in-demand actors.
