Christina Applegate Reveals How Watching Reality Shows Helps Her Cope With Multiple Sclerosis: ‘Very Useful’

As an ardent fan, I find myself utterly captivated by Christina Applegate‘s charm and resilience! Her candidness about living with multiple sclerosis and her love for reality TV is both inspiring and relatable. Just like her, I too find solace in the unscripted lives of others when my own world feels a bit too real.

Christina Applegate comes across as incredibly ordinary and relatable with her everyday routines! Recently, she opened up about living with multiple sclerosis on James Corden’s SiriusXM show “This Life of Mine.” During the conversation, when asked how she copes with her condition on a daily basis, she provided an answer that surprisingly resonated with many.

“She expressed her appreciation for reality TV, stating it’s a significant part of her life as she spends most of her time indoors and watches it constantly. She acknowledged the potential misinterpretation of this habit as depressing but explained that it helps her unwind and rest occasionally.”

She openly acknowledged her fondness for reality television programs, particularly confessing her preference for series such as Vanderpump Rules, Below Deck, The Real Housewives franchise, and Kitchen Nightmares featuring Gordon Ramsay. Remarkably, she mentioned that she can binge-watch up to nine seasons in just two days.

Applegate also shared that she appreciates programs where individuals can be authentic and expose their flaws. “It’s amazing to see such people. I find it fascinating. That’s why I’m drawn to reality TV, as it often leaves me astonished by their actions,” she continued.

About her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, she shared with the host that while receiving the diagnosis brought relief, accepting it has been challenging. She described that for quite some time, she had struggled with issues like balance problems and speaking difficulties.

Furthermore, she mentioned that participating in sports such as tennis a couple of times a week could put strain on her knees and cause significant dehydration.

In early January 2021, right before filming the final season of Dead to Me, Applegate disclosed that her condition deteriorated. She first thought her toes becoming numb were just muscle cramps from hiking, but later realized it was more severe. Additionally, she found it challenging to ascend the stairs in her trailer during production due to her health issues.

During her visit to the clinic, they carried out some examinations and arranged an MRI scan for her brain. Later, she mentioned that her physician suggested a video call to discuss the findings of her MRI.

After learning about her test results, it became clear that she needed to share this information with the Dead to Me crew, since her diagnosis might impact her part in the series. However, when she phoned them, she wasn’t completely comfortable with the exact words to use.

She shared with Corden that she exclaimed, “Guys, it’s Multiple Sclerosis,” to which they responded by closing down production for the week. Afterward, they worked out how to continue filming and eventually completed the project. It took a considerable amount of time, but we managed to finish it in the end.
