Zack Snyder’s ‘Army Of The Dead’ Franchise Reportedly Shelved by Netflix Following Disappointing Year; All We Know So Far

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for trends and a deep appreciation for the world of cinema, I must say that the recent turn of events surrounding Zack and Deborah Snyder’s projects has been quite intriguing. Having closely followed their career trajectory, it seems they have always been ambitious in their pursuits, from Army of the Dead to Rebel Moon.

During a fresh conversation, Zack and Deborah Snyder shared insights into their ongoing projects. The central focus was on their upcoming science fiction movies titled Rebel Moon Part 1 and Rebel Moon Part 2. Additionally, they delved into their previous production, Army of the Dead.

Netflix‘s “Army of the Dead” resonated with viewers, who appreciated it as a blend of action and horror genres. In its first month, it attracted 75 million households. This strong performance prompted them to develop follow-ups and offshoots. Snyder has already released “Army of Thieves,” a prequel, and is contemplating the creation of an animated series, a spin-off titled “Planet of the Dead,” as well as “Army of The Dead: Lost Vegas” among other possibilities.

Sadly, according to recent reports, neither Zack nor Deborah are currently working on any of the mentioned projects. However, Zack expressed his high enthusiasm for all their endeavors. During her interview, Deborah shared that Halloween events at Six Flags theme parks will still maintain some unique themes, promising a “really exciting experience.”

From my perspective as a lifestyle expert, it’s no surprise that some may choose to step away from the Army of the Dead franchise. For quite some time now, there hasn’t been much buzz surrounding new updates related to these projects. Moreover, Zack Snyder’s recent films – Rebel Moon Part 1 and Rebel Moon Part 2 – haven’t exactly sparked positive reactions among viewers.

In 2024, neither the audience nor the critics appreciated the films released within an eight-month span. This rapid succession could leave Netflix executives hesitant about granting Snyder another opportunity to direct costly productions in the future.

Despite some criticisms, both “Army of the Dead” and “Army of Thieves” on Netflix attracted substantial viewing time in 2023. Specifically, “Army of the Dead” was viewed by approximately 18.7 million people, based on a total of 46 million hours watched. On the other hand, “Army of Thieves” garnered around 22.6 million views with a whopping 49 million hours spent watching it.

As a long-time fan of Zack Snyder’s work, I must confess that this recent news about the cancellation of his upcoming projects, including the animated prequel series “Lost Vegas,” has left me feeling quite disappointed. Having followed the development of these projects since their initial announcements, I had eagerly anticipated the continuation of the unique and immersive storytelling that Snyder is known for.

It’s possible that this decision is connected to the varied responses to some of Snyder’s more recent projects, such as “Rebel Moon.” However, Six Flags has planned special Halloween experiences themed around “Army of the Dead” for this year, but with a unique twist on the theme.
