Lily Collins Admits That Experimenting with Fashion for Emily in Paris Helped Her Recover from Breakup with Ex Boyfriend

As an ardent fan of Lily Collins and her enchanting portrayal of Emily Cooper in Emily in Paris, I find myself deeply moved by the profound impact fashion has had on her life. Much like how the vibrant city of Paris breathes new life into its inhabitants, so too does fashion seem to have revitalized our beloved actress, who bravely emerged from a “dull period” marked by the suffocating grip of an ex-boyfriend’s possessiveness and control.

Infusing a touch of playfulness into your wardrobe could transform a monotonous spirit into a vibrant and colorful one. Much like it did for renowned actress Lily Collins, known for her role as our beloved Emily in the sensational Netflix show Emily in Paris.

Before the upcoming season of the cherished series, Collins shared insights during an interview with InStyle on August 6th, revealing that portraying Emily Cooper allowed her to enjoy herself and explore various fashion and styling options.

Apart from sharing other insights, she mentioned that fashion played a significant role in helping her cope with a challenging past relationship with an old flame. As she remembered, during that time, she tended to stick to subdued colors and avoided bold or revealing outfits. She described this phase of her life as her “less vibrant period.”

Collins’ boyfriend, whom she chose not to name, was reportedly controlling and restricted her fashion choices. He would often instruct her, saying, “You can’t wear that, you can’t do that, you can’t say that.” In her 2017 book Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me, she had earlier shared her experiences with a past boyfriend, revealing how she strived to be ‘pleasing’ for him.

Yet, she understood that as she remained silent, she grew increasingly detached from both herself and the broader world. Furthermore, in her published work, she admitted that during their relationship, she developed a co-dependent nature towards him and harbored concerns that if he departed, she would be adrift in life.

In the end, she broke free from a harmful relationship and started collaborating with renowned fashion influencer Patricia Field, who served as the costume consultant for Emily in Paris during seasons one and two.

As a devoted follower, I found myself expressing my thoughts about the trendy ensembles seen on the show. I offered feedback on numerous fashion possibilities and believed I was simply offering advice, not issuing specific demands. Yet, when I attended my initial fitting in Paris, I was taken aback to discover that some of my selections were already prepared for me.

She stated, “Combining various patterns, fabrics, designs, and aesthetics, which initially felt unfamiliar to me.” As time went on, she realized, “I no longer needed to fear using vibrant hues.”

In a nutshell, Collins pointed out that the character Emily, portrayed by her, is adaptable and comfortable occupying any space, an exceptional quality. Although her personal style may not align perfectly with Emily’s on the series, working on the costuming for Emily in Paris helped her discover how to enjoy fashion in a relaxed manner.

I can barely contain my excitement! Mark your calendars, fellow Emily in Paris enthusiasts, because starting August 15th, we’ll finally get to dive back into the enchanting world of Season 4, Part One, streaming only on Netflix!
