So, I was just minding my own business, you know, during the presidential election in South Korea, and guess what? I, Oihyun Kim, the Korea-Japan Team Lead at BeInCrypto, got pulled into the digital asset policy discussions. Can you believe it? 🤷♂️
As part of the newly elected president’s Web3 advisory team, I found myself in a room full of suits, led by National Assembly member Min Byung-duk. I mean, talk about a room full of people who probably don’t know the difference between a blockchain and a block party. 🤣
South Korea’s Landmark Crypto Regulation: Or Is It Just a Bunch of Hype?
So, they’re trying to pass this Basic Law on Digital Assets, which is supposed to be some kind of regulatory framework for crypto and blockchain. I’m not sure if it’s going to change the world or just add more paperwork to my life. 📝
The ruling party introduced it to the National Assembly on June 10, and they’re all excited about it. But let’s be real, it’s probably going to take years to actually do anything. 🕒
“Participating in the policy formation process at such a pivotal time was a powerful reminder of the importance of building bridges between the crypto ecosystem and public institutions,” I said, trying to sound important. “At BeInCrypto, we believe in responsible journalism and open dialogue, and I’m proud to represent a media organization that contributes to real-world impact.” Or at least that’s what I told them. 🙄
The media went wild, of course. KBS, The Chosun Daily, The Hankyoreh, Maeil Business Newspaper, and every other major outlet in Korea covered it. It’s like I’m a celebrity now, but without the perks. 🌟
This whole thing is supposed to be a big deal for South Korea’s digital asset market, which is already pretty vibrant. But let’s see if it actually makes a difference. 🤔
At BeInCrypto, we’re all about reporting on and shaping the future of finance. With a presence in over 50 countries and content in 26 languages, we’re trying to make crypto education and policy development a bit more balanced and transparent. Or at least that’s the plan. 📚
