DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE’S Peter Is a Combination of 2 Peters from Marvel Comics

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless superheroes, I can confidently say that Peter Wisdom from Deadpool & Wolverine is one character who truly stole my heart. Rob Delaney’s portrayal of this ordinary guy turned reluctant hero was nothing short of brilliant.

In the year 2018, during the release of “Deadpool 2”, a character stole the limelight from even Josh Brolin’s portrayal of Cable. This wasn’t Wade Wilson himself, but rather Peter, skillfully played by Rob Delaney. Peter Wisdom was an ordinary individual, searching for employment when Wade Wilson was recruiting for his new X-Force team. Despite lacking any superpowers or special skills, the charming Peter immediately caught Deadpool’s attention and became a part of the squad. Unfortunately, he met his untimely end during his first mission, along with most of the team. This moment in cinema left audiences heartbroken. However, fortunately for us, Peter made a comeback, reappearing in “Deadpool & Wolverine”.

Deadpool & Wolverine Gives Peter a Huge Moment

Thanks to Cable’s time travel gadget (which Deadpool managed to swipe), Wade had the opportunity to journey back through time, ultimately reversing Peter’s untimely demise. Six years down the line in the comic series ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘, on Earth-100005, Peter and Wade work together at an auto dealership, living a relatively quiet life selling cars side by side. Despite the passage of time, Peter continues to anticipate Wade’s return to superhero action and keeps his old costume tucked away in his workplace locker.

In the film “Deadpool & Wolverine“, it’s clear that Peter is one of Wade’s closest people, and he attends his birthday party at the movie’s start. Towards the end, during the climactic battle with the Deadpool Corps, Peter appears wearing an old costume of Wade’s, now calling himself Peterpool. His presence alone manages to halt the fight. It’s revealed that every version of Deadpool in the Multiverse has a Peter they hold dear and are reluctant to hurt him.

The Comic Book Inspirations for Peterpool

Peter Wisdom, as you may know, is primarily a character crafted for the script of Deadpool 2, lacking a genuine counterpart in Marvel Comics, with the exception of his name. Interestingly, he’s a blend of two Marvel Comics characters named Peter – one well-known and another less so. The famous one might not surprise you.

Peterpool Is Partially Inspired by Peter Parker/Spider-Man

In the comics, Wade Wilson shares a distinctive bond with the fantastic Spider-Man, and it appears there’s a hint of affection as well. When Deadpool is contemplating yielding to his most wicked instincts, it’s often Peter Parker who stirs the virtuous side of him, a role he usually accepts.

Peterpool’s Comic Book Namesake Is X-Men Hero Pete Wisdom

The lesser-known comic book character Peter’s basis is a mutant hero named Pete Wisdom from the ’90s. He shares only his name with Deadpool and Wolverine’s Peter, as they are very different characters. In the comics, Pete Wisdom is a British agent for MI13, known for his sarcastic wit and expertise in the occult. He bears some resemblance to DC’s John Constantine, often depicted with a cigarette and trench coat. He interacted with the X-Men team Excalibur and even had a short romance with Kitty Pryde. His mutant ability allowed him to throw energy blades from his fingertips, which he called “hot knives,” making him somewhat similar to Gambit, but British. Later, Pete Wisdom joined the X-Force, thus sharing a common ground with his on-screen counterpart.

Peter’s Future in the MCU

Ultimately, the Peter Wisdom in the Deadpool films is his own unique creation, borrowing only superficial elements from the comics. We just know that we love Rob Delaney in the role, and wherever Deadpool goes next, we hope Peter is right behind him. We think he’d have himself a good old time on Battleworld in Avengers: Secret Wars when the time comes.
