As a connoisseur of all things manga and comic-related, with decades of reading under my belt, I must say that the upcoming release of Secret Steward by Sanshirō Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi has piqued my interest significantly. The dynamic duo’s previous collaboration on Deadpool: Samurai was a delightful blend of humor, action, and cultural references, making it a standout in the Marvel and Shonen Jump+ collaboration.
The Shonen Jump+ platform by Shueisha has announced that Sanshirō Kasama, writer, and Hikaru Uesugi, artist, are introducing a new manga called “Secret Steward.” They made this announcement on their respective social media accounts (previously known as Twitter). This romantic comedy series will focus on the story of a trainee butler and his lively mistress.
Kasama’s upcoming series offers a novel twist on the rom-com genre, often portraying a relationship between a character in a position of authority and their servant. Notably, the manga artist Arata Momose is responsible for coloring the vibrant illustrations. At present, no additional information has been disclosed. Titled “Secret Steward,” this captivating tale is set to debut on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform on August 8, 2024.
At the moment, I’m immersed in following Hikaru Uesugi’s ongoing serialization of “Okibi no Takibi” in Champion Cross. Uesugi is not only responsible for this captivating tale but also for other works such as “The Muscle-Brained Prince Becomes a Commoner,” “Fake Amnesiac Hachiya-san,” and numerous short stories. Previously, Sanshirō Kasama and I collaborated on “The Muscle-Brained Prince Becomes a Commoner.”
Previously, Kasama and Uesugi worked together on a single issue Deadpool: Samurai manga, which was published in Shonen Jump+ back in October 2019. This one-off story was part of a joint collaboration between Marvel and Shonen Jump+ that included seven such stories from different Weekly Shonen Jump manga artists, produced in advance of the launch of Avengers: Endgame.
In the comic book series Deadpool: Samurai, penned by Sanshirō Kasama and artistically illustrated by Hikaru Uesugi, the character Deadpool journeys to Japan’s Samurai period using a time machine, engaging in combat with adversaries in traditional samurai style. Other notable standalone stories from this creative partnership include Secret Reverse by Kazuki Takahashi, Halloween Avengers by Mato, and Ant-Man+ by Toyotaka Haneda.
Originally, Deadpool: Samurai was only published as a single issue. Later, it was transformed into a brief series that ran from December 2020 to June 2021. Both volumes of the manga were made available by Viz Media in 2022, marking their ongoing partnership with Marvel Comics for publishing manga based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Keep an eye out for further updates regarding Secret Steward.
