As a long-time Marvel enthusiast who has been following the universe’s intricate web since the early days of comic books, I must say that the revelation of Lewis Pullman’s character being potentially connected to Sentry in Thunderbolts has sent shockwaves through my comic-loving heart!
2024’s San Diego Comic-Con has been abuzz with significant updates! The return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dr. Doom is one of the biggest headlines, but there might be another major character hinted at. Two highly anticipated movies from Marvel Studios are on the horizon – Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. Both films will feature General Ross, with Thunderbolts rumored to focus more on Sentry.
But who is Sentry, and what are his superpowers? Let’s learn.
At the recent large gathering, also known as the convention, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans got a sneak peek at the upcoming gathering of the Thunderbolts, the unconventional heroes from the MCU. The main cast of the film, which includes Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and David Harbour, shared details about their roles. Additionally, an actor whose identity has not been revealed yet provided some insight into his part in the movie as well.
At SDCC 2024’s Thunderbolts panel, Lewis Pullman hinted that he will be playing the character Bob, who turns out to be Sentry’s civilian identity (Robert Reynolds) in Marvel comics when associated with the Thunderbolts.

Discussing the character, Robert Reynolds, we find him as a ninth-grader in high school, who illegally obtains a prototype of the Super Soldier serum under development and amplifies its power dramatically.
In simpler terms, Reynolds takes the serum from a professor who’s working on a project as a subcontractor. However, instead of just wanting to try a drug, Reynolds unexpectedly gains extraordinary, solar-empowered superpowers upon consuming the serum immediately.
As a die-hard fan, I’d like to share some trivia that I’ve gathered about my favorite character, The Sentry. This extraordinary being was masterfully crafted by the brilliant minds of Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee. The world was first introduced to him in the pages of The Sentry #1, back in 2000.
According to Wikipedia, this character is believed to be omnipotent, meaning his powers are vast and yet to be fully understood. However, in the comic books, he’s demonstrated feats such as lifting a helicarrier with the help of Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man. He’s also prevented a catastrophic event where the Celestial Exitar was about to flatten Earth.
The ensemble of Thunderbolts features the talents of Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Wyatt Russell, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The movie will be released on May 2, 2025.
