WELCOME TO DERRY Season 2 Won’t Make Us Wait 27 Years

Although Pennywise only appears in Derry every 27 years, fans won’t have to wait that long for more of the show. We really enjoyed the first season, Welcome to Derry, and while HBO hasn’t officially announced a second season yet, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max, told Deadline that the series is definitely moving forward and isn’t stalled at all.

Bloys says the show was a big hit for them. Andy and Barbara Muschietti are currently developing a story idea for a potential next season, and Bloys is eager to move forward if they find the right concept. The main challenge is that the show isn’t based on existing books, so creating a new story requires original ideas. The Muschiettis want to ensure they have a compelling narrative before proceeding, but Bloys confirms they are supportive and ready to collaborate when a story they’re passionate about emerges.

Many popular shows leave fans waiting years for new seasons – Stranger Things is a prime example. It’s encouraging to hear that the team behind Welcome to Derry plans to start working on the next part of the story immediately.

What will the next chapter of Welcome to Derry be about?

The creators of Welcome to Derry – Andy and Barbara Muschietti, along with Jason Fuchs – have planned future seasons that will explore the town’s dark history. Seasons two and three will be set in 1935 and 1908, focusing on two particularly gruesome events: the Bradley Gang massacre and an explosion during an Easter egg hunt at Kitchner Ironworks. These incidents are already hinted at in the show’s unsettling opening credits.

While Welcome to Derry is almost certainly happening, we have a good idea of what to expect. Now, it’s just a matter of waiting for the show to arrive. Good news: it sounds like season two, and that iconic red balloon, will be here before we know it.
