As a long-time admirer of Richard Simmons and someone who has personally benefited from his infectious energy and inspiring fitness philosophy, I find myself deeply troubled by Pauly Shore’s plans to create a biopic about my beloved guru without his explicit permission.
In light of the passing of the renowned fitness figure Richard Simmons, his family has shown firm opposition to actor Pauly Shore’s intentions for a biographical movie about this cherished exercise guide. Prior to his demise on July 13th, Simmons had voiced his opinions regarding the film.
In a recent update on social media in January, he openly shared his apprehensions, stating, “It’s been rumored there might be a film about me starring Pauly Shore. However, I want to make it clear that I haven’t granted my approval for this movie yet. So, please take tabloid reports with a grain of salt.”
Regarding Simmons’ disagreement, Pauly Shore has publicly shared his plans to move forward with the movie endeavor. In a talk with Entertainment Tonight, Shore clarified, “I’m not entirely sure if that was him tweeting all the time. I don’t know who that person was.” This statement sparked a strong response from Simmons’ family.
Richard Simmons’ family, particularly his brother Lenny, have strongly responded to Shore’s comments. In a statement, Lenny Simmons denied Shore’s allegations, stating that he hasn’t exchanged texts, emails, or phone calls with Pauly, not even to wish him luck as Pauly has claimed on numerous occasions.
It was revealed that Simmons personally composed all his social media content, while Dicky authored his own posts. Ahead of schedule, he would spend a week perfecting and reviewing them multiple times to make sure they communicated accurately.
According to a confirmation from Simmons’ team, they affirmed to Fox News Digital that Lenny’s statement is genuine, indicating that the family is against the movie project by Shore.

Pauly Shore expressed respect for Simmons’ career. He honored Simmons on the day of his passing, penning, “I’ve just learned, like everyone else, that the wonderful Richard Simmons has passed away. I hope you’re finding tranquility and shining brightly in heaven.” Additionally, Shore shared that he directed a short film about Simmons called The Court Jester, which first appeared at the Sundance Film Festival.
In his statement, Shore revealed that the purpose of the biopic is to pay a heartfelt tribute to Simmons. From the start, he’s emphasized love rather than any desire for vengeance. He even expressed hope that Simmons would encourage him with some magical fairy dust, saying something like, “Go ahead, Pauly.” This project is essentially an expression of admiration and appreciation towards Simmons.
