Get ready for some drama in Genoa City! Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are returning to The Young and the Restless this April, revisiting the roles of Malcolm Winters and Dr. Stephanie Simmons that made them famous back in 1994. Production is already underway, and the network promises this multi-episode storyline will have major, long-term consequences for the show’s characters. While Moore has made a few appearances over the years, including a special one for the show’s 50th anniversary, this marks Fox’s first return to the series since 1995.
Those who have followed the show for a long time may remember when Malcolm and Stephanie had a brief romance during the show’s original run. This relationship was actually set in motion by Drucilla Barber, who hoped it would distract Malcolm from her own family issues. However, the romance didn’t last because Stephanie realized Malcolm’s hectic life wasn’t compatible with her career ambitions, and she eventually left town quietly almost thirty years ago.
Eric Moore’s recent visits to the set of “The Young and the Restless” are often connected to honoring the memory of Kristoff St. John, who played Neil Winters, Malcolm’s half-brother. During the show’s 2023 anniversary celebration, Moore gave a heartfelt tribute, saying he always makes time to remember and celebrate Neil Winters.
Beyond the show, Moore has often talked about his close relationship with St. John, considering him like a brother and acknowledging St. John’s significant role in helping him launch his career.
Both actors are busy with major TV and film projects before they reunite. Shemar Moore recently finished filming the new series S.W.A.T. Exiles, where he returns as Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. Following the end of the original S.W.A.T. series in May 2025 after eight seasons, Moore now stars in this 10-episode drama, which focuses on Hondo leading a team of new recruits after a mission goes wrong.
Vivica A. Fox is having a very busy and successful year, with several exciting projects on the way. She’ll be appearing in the dramatic film Is God Is and recently completed the thriller The Wrong Baby Daddy. Beyond acting, Fox is also making a name for herself as a director. She recently directed First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story, which earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination in late 2024.
As The Young and the Restless starts its 53rd season, the return of Malcolm and Stephanie couldn’t come at a better time. The show is gaining traction and preparing for a big crossover event with the new drama Beyond the Gates this June, which will expand the world of CBS’s daytime soaps. Fans are excited to see what happens when these two iconic characters return to the set – will they rekindle their romance, or will their arrival create new problems for the Winters family?
