As a die-hard fan of animated classics and musical films, I can hardly contain my excitement for Rachel Zegler’s latest venture – voicing Princess Ellian in Spellbound! Having grown up with timeless tales like Beauty and the Beast, it’s a dream come true to see a talented young actress like Rachel step into such a magical world.
As a lifestyle aficionado, I’m thrilled to share that I, Rachel Zegler, am diving into voice acting with the Netflix animated musical film, Spellbound, brought to life by Skydance Animation. In this enchanting tale, you’ll hear my voice as Princess Ellian, embarking on a perilous adventure to rescue her kingdom. A mysterious spell has transformed her parents into fearsome monsters. Don’t miss the official teaser trailer below!
Rachel Zegler voices Princess Ellian in the Spellbound teaser
In the recently released animated film “Spellbound,” the titular character, Princess Ellian (portrayed by Rachel Zegler), encounters an uncommon predicament within her royal family: due to a baffling enchantment, her parents, the king and queen of Lumbria, have been transformed into colossal, destructive beasts.
In the trailer, Ellian is depicted struggling to control her beastly parents who are imprisoned by the kingdom’s forces. Her goal is to lift the enchantment that binds them. The movie “Spellbound” is helmed by Vicky Jenson, a collaborator on Shrek, and boasts music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.
Spellbound Director Vicky Jenson on depicting family dynamics in Spellbound
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled about Director Vicky Jenson’s latest project, Spellbound. Known for her exceptional work on Shrek, she masterfully employs enchanting elements to weave a heartwarming narrative revolving around family dynamics. In an exclusive interview with Netflix, she shared her creative process: “To make the extraordinary relatable,” she said, “we begin with the familiar – a kingdom, a princess, a king, a queen, and a spell. This magical setting becomes our canvas to paint the story of this unique family.” I can’t wait to see it unfold!
The director also emphasized, “In my opinion, this story transcends the details of this particular family situation. It resonates with children and their parents, addressing the sense of estrangement that can develop as we mature, and the efforts required to bridge that gap so we can face it together and emerge stronger with a deeper comprehension.”
In her quest to break the spell over her folks, viewers might notice reminiscent aspects in the realm of Lumbria, such as a ride-providing frog and a charmstick that functions much like a car key remote.
According to Netflix reports, Rachel Zegler, recognized for her part in West Side Story, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to an animated movie, finding inspiration from cherished animated films such as Beauty and the Beast. Jenson commended Zegler’s vocal performance, highlighting her skill in expressing vulnerability and humanity.
In their terrifying transformations, Ellian’s parents are lent their voices by Academy Award winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem. The star-studded voice acting ensemble also features John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane, and Tituss Burgess.
Spellbound premieres on Netflix on November 22.
