On July 26th, the renowned Top Chef celebrity posted on her Instagram, revealing that her recent health issue was diagnosed in July, following a string of dental troubles she’s faced since December. Initially, doctors believed her dental issues stemmed from tooth grinding.

Despite the gravity of the situation, I found an unexpected calmness when the doctors delivered this news.”

Chung elaborated by stating that, due to her profession as a chef, she’s accustomed to flourishing in high-pressure situations. She revealed that she was intensely determined to finish off all the examinations and scans swiftly so she could immediately begin devising treatment strategies.

The famous Top Chef contestant shared that she had a emotional moment with oncologist Dr. Allen when they were discussing her treatment options. She wrote, “I lost control and started crying, struggling to formulate thoughts and ask questions, but my body just wouldn’t cooperate. All I could comprehend was ‘Option 1: surgery, complete removal of your tongue.'”

The chef and her spouse inquired whether it would be possible for them to preserve the tongue and learn about its recovery chances. Medical professionals informed the pair about an extraordinary situation, termed as the “unicorn” case, where they had successfully treated another chef using chemotherapy and radiation, leading to a cure.
