Popular Netflix Shows Canceled While Others Get the Green Light

As a big Netflix watcher, it’s been a wild February! They’re already making some big decisions about what stays and what goes, and it’s happening so early in the year. We’ve seen a flurry of renewals and cancellations. Thankfully, shows like The Lincoln Lawyer and Emily in Paris are safe for now, but some others aren’t so lucky.

The biggest shock so far has been the cancellation of Terminator Zero after just one season. Critics and fans of the franchise really loved it, but apparently viewership wasn’t high enough to justify the cost, which is a real shame – the creator, Mattson Tomlin, had a whole multi-season story planned! It’s frustrating when a good show doesn’t get the chance to fully develop.

On January 21st, we also got the news that The Abandons, with Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, wouldn’t be back for a second season. Despite the impressive cast and the creator’s strong reputation, it just didn’t click with enough viewers. That same day, The Vince Staples Show was also canceled after two seasons, which is sad because it was such a unique and interesting show.

There’s also some uncertainty surrounding With Love, Meghan. While Netflix hasn’t officially said anything, the word is that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, might be moving on to other projects, so this season might be the last. It’s always a bit disappointing to see shows get cut, but that’s just how streaming goes, I guess!

There’s good news for fans of several popular shows! Black Mirror is officially returning for a eighth season, confirmed by creator Charlie Brooker, who quipped it will be back when real life becomes as strange as the show itself.

Plus, Emily in Paris has been renewed for a sixth season after a strong start to its fifth season in Rome. And if you enjoyed the figure skating drama Finding Her Edge, you’ll be pleased to know it’s been picked up for a second season.

It’s fascinating to see where everyone’s headed after these projects! I’ve been following Mattson Tomlin’s work, and it’s great to hear he’s writing for The Batman Part II. Lena Headey is always amazing, and I’m really looking forward to seeing her in Svalbard. I’m also pleased Gillian Anderson is staying with Netflix – I just heard she finished filming The Salt Path, which sounds fantastic. And it’s awesome to see Vince Staples back to what he does best, with a big tour planned for the summer. It’s exciting to see all these talented people pursuing their passions!

It’s going to be a big year for changes on Netflix, and honestly, a little sad for me as a fan. I’m really going to miss some of my favorites! Outer Banks, that awesome adventure show, is ending after its next season – I’m so excited but also bummed it’s the last one. And just recently, Queer Eye finished its tenth and final season, watching the Fab Five help people in Washington D.C. was bittersweet. With all these changes happening so quickly, I’m definitely keeping an eye on what Netflix does next – things are really changing in the streaming world!
