Kenta Miyake on playing villain in My Hero Academia: You’re Next

In the fourth movie of My Hero Academia series, titled “You’re Next,” Kenta Miyake, who voices All Might, returns as a new villain named Dark Might. Misled by All Might’s message, Dark Might believes he is destined to rule the world next. This film is scheduled for release in Japan this summer and continues the storyline post Season 6 and Season 7.

During my chat with ComicBook over the summer at Anime Expo 2024, Kenta Miyake shared that he had been offered the chance to portray a villain in an upcoming movie. At first taken aback, Miyake expressed delight at the prospect, as it presented an intriguing opportunity for him as a voice actor to delve into the character’s background within the My Hero Academia universe. He found this venture engaging and enjoyable.

Miyake shared that he first heard about Dark Might in a casual conversation from one of his colleagues, who mentioned, “By the way, they’ve asked you to play the villain.” This caught him off guard as he exclaimed, “Villain?!” Being a professional voice actor, this opportunity sparked his curiosity and enthusiasm.

Miyake went into more detail about his new role, sharing that he’s long been intrigued by the perspective of villains in My Hero Academia. This topic has piqued his interest significantly, leading him to truly enjoy exploring it.

Upcoming anime film “My Hero Academia: You’re Next” is scheduled to premiere in Japan on August 2nd and in North America on October 11th. In this production, Miyake will be portrayed as a villain. Tensai Okamura will helm the project at studio Bones, while Kohei Horikoshi, the mastermind behind “My Hero Academia,” assumes the roles of supervisor and character designer.

Yosuke Kuroda is back on board to pen the script for the upcoming film, joined by Yoshihiko Umakoshi who will be responsible for designing the characters and Yuki Hayashi returning to create the music. Joining the production are new voices and faces: Kenta Miyake lends his talent to bring Dark Might to life, Meru Nukumi voices Anna Scervino, Mamoru Miyano takes on the role of Giulio Gandini, Ken Uo becomes Hugo, Yuki Ono portrays Kamil, Minako Kotobuki brings Deborah to life, Yusuke Kobayashi voices Paulo, Michitake Kikuchi plays Simon, and Masaki Terasoma takes on the character of Bruno.

A brief about Dark Might

As an obsessed fan, I’d put it this way: In the thrilling world of My Hero Academia: You’re Next, Dark Might rules as the formidable antagonist. His powers mirror All Might’s at his finest hour, making him a force to be reckoned with. Dark Might’s abilities surpassed every hero I knew, leaving Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki – the mightiest heroes of U.A. High School’s Class 1-A – powerless in comparison.

1) The Dark Might character strongly resembles a younger version of All Might when he was muscular and using One For All, sharing the same toned physique, bright blue eyes, and short, swept-back blond hair with two noticeable tufts at the top. However, there are some variations; for instance, Dark Might has a more curved nose and denser eyebrows compared to All Might.

1. Apart from the usual, he often dons a white tuxedo suit adorned with black details, complete with white trousers and dress shoes. He pairs this with a dark blue collar undershirt, a light blue bow tie and handkerchief in his left pocket, and a vibrant red rose on his left lapel. His attire also takes inspiration from All Might’s Silver Age costume and Golden Age costume. In both cases, he sports eight golden rings – four on each hand, but none on the thumbs.

1. Unnamed Yellow-Glowing Booster Quirk of Dark Might empowers his hand to emit a bright yellow light. This power seems to enhance both his speed and strength. Moreover, this unique ability lets Dark Might perform some of All Might’s most potent Ultimate Moves, granting him lightning-fast strikes that match the strength of All Might at his best.
