STAR TREK: SECTION 31 with Michelle Yeoh Shares First Action-Packed Trailer at SDCC

As a long-time Star Trek fan and avid gamer, I must admit that at first, I was disappointed when I heard Michelle Yeoh’s Emperor Philippa Georgiou would only be getting a movie instead of a series. I had envisioned an entire season or more exploring her complex character and the secrets of Section 31.

Some “Star Trek” fans are disappointed because they expected Michelle Yeoh’s character, Emperor Philippa Georgiou, from “Discovery,” to have her own spinoff series. Instead, she will only appear in a movie. Fans were looking forward to following her character for an extended period, but now it will be limited to just one film. However, there is good news on the horizon. During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount+ and CBS Studios unveiled the first teaser trailer for “Star Trek: Section 31.” The trailer has received rave reviews, and it’s possible that Georgiou may still receive her own series in the future.

If she goes ahead with it, it’s uncertain which form of Georgiou the Emperor will present to us. This trailer introduced fans to Miku Martineau portraying young Georgiou, and she is equally captivating.

In Section 31, actors Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, and Kacey Rohl, along with director Olatunde Osunsanmi and executive producer Alex Kurtzman, appeared on Hall H’s stage to give fans an update on the film. The excitement level rose significantly when Yeoh unexpectedly joined in via video call. She then unveiled the movie’s first thrilling trailer for all to enjoy.

The Mirror Universe storyline may reveal Georgiou’s past as its former empress. Martineau is set to portray the young version of this character.

As I embark on this covert Starfleet assignment, my haunting past threatens to resurface. My duty is clear: safeguard the United Federation of Planets. Yet, old demons lurk in the shadows, ready to confront me during this critical mission.

If you haven’t heard of Section 31 before, this trailer just gives a sneak peek into its clandestine activities. For a deeper understanding, check out our comprehensive explainer on Star Trek’s hidden organization.

Written by Craig Sweeny, the cast of Section 31 includes Sven Ruygrok (known for his role in “One Piece”), Robert Kazinsky (“Pacific Rim” fame), Humberly Gonzalez (“Ginny & Georgia” actress), and James Hiroyuki Liao (“Barry” actor. The question is, how many of them will make it through their mission with Emperor Philippa Georgiou? Stay tuned to find out in “early 2025” when the film hits the screens on Section 31.

Additionally, we anticipate discovering who else may join the cast for a Georgiou-centered spin-off.
