As a lifelong gamer and DC Universe fan, I have been eagerly anticipating James Gunn’s new direction for the DCU since he took over last year. The announcement of “Creature Commandos” was always on our radar, but the first teaser revealed at SDCC 2024 was a thrilling surprise!
I’m thrilled as a fan to share that I’ve been eagerly anticipating James Gunn’s new DC Universe (DCU) since he took the helm last year. The buzz around the upcoming changes to Superman and Supergirl has only fueled my excitement, but what I’ve been most excited for is the animated series, Creature Commandos.
In the beginning of the trailer, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) introduces Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) to his new squad at Belle Reve. This occurs post-“The Suicide Squad,” as explained by the fact that this is Rick Flag’s father and due to congress disbanding Task Force X. Waller, who always looks for loopholes, informs them that human prisoners are no longer allowed on missions. However, non-human team members are still eligible, making it clear that they will be working with monsters instead.
As a longtime fan of quirky and action-packed shows, I’m thrilled to bits about this flag team! Let me tell you, the way this cast is shaping up is nothing short of a dream come true for me. With Nina Mazursky, played by Zoe Chao, bringing her fishy charm to the table, and G.I. Robot and Weasel, both portrayed by the talented Sean Gunn, adding their unique brand of humor and strength – I’m hooked!
Waller, Economos, and Weasel’s participation in the upcoming series indicates a connection with “Peacemaker” and “The Suicide Squad.” This link appears to be stronger than I originally assumed. It was already known that “Peacemaker” season 2 would be part of the DCU. I’m open to the idea of making “The Suicide Squad” canonical as well. In any case, this development is exciting.
Creature Commandos debuts on Max this December.
I’m excited to share that Kyle Anderson holds an impressive role as the Senior Editor at TopMob. He doesn’t just stop there; he also hosts a riveting weekly podcast called Laser Focus, where he explores the depths of pop culture in captivating discussions. His insights into films and TV shows are worth checking out on his review section. Additionally, if you want to keep up with Kyle’s latest findings and thoughts, be sure to follow him on Instagram and Letterboxd. With such an extensive background in media and culture, Kyle is a must-follow figure for anyone interested in these fields.
