Deadpool & Wolverine: All Major Characters We Meet From The Multiverse

As a dedicated fan who has followed the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Deadpool & Wolverine finally graced the big screen. The hype surrounding this film had been building steadily since its announcement, and as someone who grew up reading the comics and watching the X-Men movies, it felt surreal to see these beloved characters come together in such a unique and entertaining way.

The excitement surrounding the release of Deadpool and Wolverine is winding down as the movie has now premiered in theaters. Marvel Studios’ most highly anticipated production of 2024 got off to a great start, earning positive early reviews and a “fresh” certification on Rotten Tomatoes. The multiverse mayhem depicted in the film has been a major reason for the persistent hype, with teaser after teaser leaving us eager for the unexpected appearances. Here are some cameos, both anticipated and surprising, featured in the Deadpool and Wolverine movie led by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

X-23

Fans were let down by Dafne Keen’s surprise appearance as Laura/X-23 in the final trailer of the movie, despite her role being a highly anticipated secret. Many had looked forward to seeing Keen bring the character to life on the big screen after her involvement had been kept hidden for an extended period.

Although the damage wasn’t permanent, as Keen’s character played a more significant role in the film than suggested in the final trailer. In the movie, Laura is identical to Logan, having witnessed his father’s sacrificial act. In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it’s Keen’s Laura who propels the story forward by saving the title characters from Cassandra Nova’s mental assaults and retrieving Juggernaut’s helmet after beheading him.

Elektra

Fans weren’t completely surprised by Jennifer Garner’s announcement to reprise her role as Elektra, as rumors of her involvement had surfaced back in July 2023 from The Hollywood Reporter. However, Marvel Studios had kept this news under wraps until now. Previously, Garner portrayed the character in “Daredevil” (2003) and “Elektra” (2005).

In simpler terms, Garner’s Elektra costume in Deadpool and Wolverine looks darker red, blending elements from her earlier films as the character, with a hint of comic book hue. The character is among the last living resistance heroes dwelling in the Void.

Blade

Although the new Blade film is yet to emerge from the development stage, it took fans by surprise when Wesley Snipes announced he would be reprising his role as the legendary vampire slayer in it. Having last appeared in “Blade: Trinity” twenty years ago, Snipes injected humor into his cameo, poking fun at Marvel Studios’ persistent postponement of the long-awaited revival of this beloved series.

Reynolds boldly declared, “Only one man can be Blade,” highlighting the timeless nature of Snipe’s depiction of the legendary character.

Gambit

As an obsessed fan, I can’t contain my excitement as I finally witness Channing Tatum bring Gambit to life in Deadpool and Wolverine! For years, I’ve watched Tatum pursue this role with unwavering determination, starting back in 2014 when he was first linked to the part. I even remember seeing him at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, standing proudly amongst Marvel’s greatest stars. But alas, fate took a turn when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019, causing the project to be put on hold indefinitely. However, my faith never wavered, and now, I get to witness my beloved Channing Tatum embody the charisma and cunning of Gambit on the big screen!

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: When it comes to Tatum’s role in the storyline, it’s more than just a supporting character – it’s an essential piece of the puzzle. And here’s the fun part: his character is filled with meta-references to the infamous “Gambit” film that never made it off the ground. Tatum himself humorously bemoans his missed opportunities, and Deadpool jumps on the bandwagon with some good-natured ribbing about his exaggerated Cajun accent. For fans who’ve been waiting for a well-executed Gambit adaptation, this moment is sure to leave them grinning from ear to ear.

Hulk

I’m a devoted fan of the Marvel universe, and one character that consistently captivates me is the Hulk. This iconic figure has been brought to life in various forms across multiple platforms such as movies, TV shows, and comics themselves. I’ve come across different versions of the Hulk, like the one that teamed up with Deadpool and Wolverine. However, it’s important to note that the Hulk portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Mark Ruffalo is not the same version from those stories.

As a devoted fan following Shawn Levy’s directorial work, I can tell you that in Deadpool’s on-screen journey, he seeks a worthy replacement for his deceased universe’s Wolverine, as depicted in Logan. During this quest, he stumbles upon an authentic Wolverine donning the iconic orange and brown suit from the comics. This Wolverine prepares to engage in a fierce battle against the Hulk. This scene pays homage to Wolverine’s debut in The Incredible Hulk #181 and mirrors the renowned cover of Incredible Hulk #340, where the Hulk’s image is reflected in Wolverine’s claws.

Lady Deadpool

Among all characters, Lady Deadpool has generated the most excitement and discussion among fans. The identity of the actor set to portray her caused a split in fan opinion: some speculated it could be Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively, while others believed Taylor Swift, who had been linked to the role, was the stronger contender.

After much anticipation, the truth has been unmasked. It’s not Swift, but rather Lively, who faces off against Reynolds’ Deadpool in the film.

Kidpool

Young actor Walker Scobell portrays Kidpool, a kid-sized version of Deadpool, in movies. He’s also got a baby Deadpool companion. Though not an Avenger in the comics, having Kidpool in Deadpool Corp opens up possibilities for amusing Marvel plots. Bringing Kidpool before Deadpool to the Avengers may lead to humorous scenarios.

Headpool

In the Deadpool Corporation, Headpool is a remarkable character – a talking, zombified Deadpool head with a distinct Southern drawl. Contrary to early reports, this isn’t just the decapitated head of Weapon X from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Instead, it’s an undead head brought to life from Marvel Zombies. With Nathan Fillion providing the voiceover, this role marks another addition to his growing list of appearances within the MCU. Previously, he portrayed the Blue Alien prisoner in Guardians of the Galaxy and Master Karja in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Next up for Fillion is the role of Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman project.

Having Deadpool and Wolverine make appearances in the film significantly enhanced my interest in it. It was a delight for fans, as we got to reexperience the joy of watching our beloved heroes join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Currently playing in cinemas: Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Human Torch

Chris Evans, recognized for his portrayal of Captain America in the MCU, is reprising an earlier role from the Fantastic Four films. Evans brought the character to life as Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). For nearly a decade, he donned the Captain America shield, achieving international fame. However, prior to assuming this iconic role, Evans had already made a mark as Johnny Storm. Marvel Studios has now welcomed him back into the MCU family, five years following Avengers: Endgame.
