Mckenna Grace will star as Daphne Blake in the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series on Netflix. The 19-year-old actress is taking on the lead role in the show’s first season, which will have eight episodes. The series was highly sought after by multiple studios before Netflix landed the deal with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
The new series is written by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, the team behind the Cowboy Bebop adaptation. This isn’t a continuation of the classic Scooby-Doo adventures; instead, it’s a story about how the group first met and became a team.
The series takes place during Shaggy and Daphne’s last summer at camp, where they stumble into a troubling mystery. It centers around a sad, lost Great Dane puppy who might have seen something supernatural happen. As things get more dangerous, they team up with Velma, a no-nonsense local, and Freddy, a new kid in town, to unravel a frightening situation that could expose their hidden pasts.
Cory Appelbaum and Rebecca Rosenberg will lead the creative side of the show, also serving as executive producers with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner’s Midnight Radio production company. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will also executive produce as part of their existing agreement with Warner Bros. Television. While Megan Grace is the first actor confirmed for the series, the rest of the teenage detective team is expected to be announced soon.
This role is a special one for Grace, bringing her back to the Scooby-Doo universe – but this time in a live-action format. She previously voiced a young Daphne in the animated movie Scoob! in 2020, so this feels like a complete return to the franchise.
Most recently, she starred in the romantic drama Regretting You, based on the Colleen Hoover novel, alongside Allison Williams. The film, released in late 2025, demonstrated her versatility as an actress, showing she can excel outside of her usual horror and sci-fi roles.
Grace is poised to remain a major figure in Hollywood for the rest of the year with several exciting projects on the horizon. She’ll be starring in Scream 7 as Hannah Thurman, continuing the iconic horror series. Fans are also anticipating her role as Maysilee Donner in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, a prequel releasing this November. Already boasting an impressive resume of over 70 acting credits before turning 20, Grace has successfully made the leap from popular child star to a leading actress in Hollywood.
