‘I Had Gone To My Kids’: Chris Hemsworth Reveals Consulting His Three Children Before Taking Up Transformers One

As a massive Transformers fan and a proud father, I can’t contain my excitement for Chris Hemsworth joining the iconic franchise as the voice of Optimus Prime. The moment I heard the news, I was transported back to my childhood memories of watching the original animated series and marvelling at the heroic leadership of Optimus Prime.


Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry will lend their voices to the iconic characters Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively in the much-anticipated animated movie, Transformers: One. In addition to these stars, Keegan-Michael Key joins the cast as B-127, an earlier iteration of Bumblebee. On July 25, at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, Hemsworth, Tyree Henry, and co-star Keegan-Michael Key treated fans to a sneak peek of Transformers: One.

Chris Hemsworth reveals consulting his kids before joining Transformers One

In an interview with PEOPLE, Hemsworth explained that he sought his children’s opinions before deciding to join the film. He shared, “I asked my kids, ‘What do you think?’ And they replied, ‘You should do it.’ ” In this new role, Hemsworth will succeed Cullen as the voice of the Autobots’ future leader for the first time, a position previously held by the renowned voice actor since the 1980s Transformers animated series.

Chris Hemsworth says his kids were there with him for the recording

Chris Hemsworth shared with PEOPLE that his enthusiasm for the franchise and the significant influence of his kids, India Rose, Sasha, and Tristan, played a large part in him participating in the voice recording sessions for the Josh Cooley-led prequel. Hemsworth explained, “My children were present during most of my recordings. They offered ideas or attempted to divert my attention. It was an enjoyable experience.”

In April, Hemsworth and Henry unveiled the movie’s initial trailer in space through a live-streamed rocket launch by Paramount Pictures. Reaching an altitude of 125,000 feet above Earth, the trailer was then broadcasted.
