How Deadpool 3 Had Several Rejected Concepts Before Hugh Jackman Signed On

As a dedicated fan of the Deadpool franchise, I’ve been following the development of Deadpool 3 with bated breath. The behind-the-scenes stories of the rejected ideas for this highly anticipated film have piqued my curiosity and deepened my appreciation for the creative process.

After two instalments of Deadpool featuring Ryan Reynolds, the team behind the scenes sought a new and innovative direction for his next film. During a recent interview about Deadpool and Wolverine, executive producer Wendy Jacobson shared that numerous ideas for the movie were explored and ultimately discarded before Hugh Jackman came on board.

Wendy elaborated on various rejected ideas, including one that involved spoofing Thor: The Dark World and another that featured Reynolds’ Deadpool and Karan Soni’s Dopinder on a road trip. Fortunately, these ideas were discarded, allowing us to experience the dynamic on-screen chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

What were the other crazy ideas for Deadpool 3?

In an interview with CBR, Wendy Jacobson discussed various concepts for Deadpool 3 during an conversation. She mentioned, “At one time, we considered a low-budget road trip film featuring Deadpool and Dopinder. Another proposal was a frame-by-frame remake of Thor: The Dark World, starring Deadpool, until the initial turning point.”

Wendy went on to explain, “We came up with various concepts. One was a Deadpool retrospective, revealing that Deadpool had actually been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe all along, though his scenes didn’t make the final cut. These were just some of the outlandish proposals. Unfortunately, none of them came to fruition. Regardless, my involvement in the project wouldn’t have changed since I was working with Ryan.”

Kevin Feige’s opinion on using Thor 2’s spoof

In a chat with CBR, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige shared his thoughts on the possibility of reviving Thor: The Dark World as Deadpool 3. He expressed that among various proposals, this was the least compelling. Director Shawn Levy previously mentioned that Deadpool 3 production was in danger of being canceled until Hugh Jackman intervened to confirm his return as Wolverine.

Levy expressed that the challenge was more difficult than anticipated. We were on the verge of abandoning the project since nothing felt particularly exceptional until unexpectedly, Hugh Jackman contacted us out of the blue. Once we identified it as Wolverine featuring Deadpool, the movie gained its purpose and significance.

At the movie premiere, I had the pleasure of spotting Blake Lively in a stunning Lady Deadpool ensemble. She looked absolutely radiant and was cheering on her husband with unwavering support. Additionally, Gigi Hadid graced us with her presence. The movie is now playing in theaters for all to enjoy.
