As a dedicated fan of the original “Practical Magic,” I am thrilled to hear that Akiva Goldsman will be returning to pen the sequel. His involvement adds a sense of familiarity and authenticity that is essential for continuing this beloved story. His previous experience with the franchise, coupled with his impressive writing resume, gives me confidence in the potential success of “Practical Magic 2.”

The upcoming sequel to “Practical Magic” (1998), the beloved fantasy-comedy, is being well taken care of. Previously announced, this long-awaited production will bring back original stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owen sisters following a lengthy absence of almost thirty years.

A recent development in the Practical Magic sequel may bode well for its achievement, as a skillful author from the initial project has joined the production.

An original writer will return to pen Practical Magic 2

As a lifestyle expert and avid movie fan, I’m thrilled to share that I have some exciting news from the world of Hollywood! I’ve had the pleasure of working with Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman in the past, and he recently revealed some intriguing plans for the future. Akiva confirmed his involvement in penning the long-awaited sequel to “Practical Magic,” produced by Warner Bros. This announcement was made official during the Producers on Producing panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, as reported by Collider. So movie enthusiasts, get ready for another magical journey with Akiva at the helm!

Goldsman is tasked with creating a successful follow-up to “Practical Magic,” the much-anticipated movie sequel based on Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name, and the initial film helmed by Griffin Dunne.

After announcing that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman will once again play Sally and Gillian in the upcoming Owen witches movie, Kidman suggested that there is more to the storyline than what has already been told, according to ComicBook. Therefore, Bullock and Kidman will carry on with the Owen witches’ adventure, revealing additional details about the film’s plot.

As an obsessed fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about “Practical Magic 2”! According to producer Denise Di Novi, we can expect the storyline to be inspired by the fourth book in Alice Hoffman’s series, published in 2021. Entitled “The Book of Magic,” this captivating addition brings us up-to-date with the Owens women’s journey. Three generations strong, they’re determined to break free from the centuries-old curse that has kept them from experiencing true love. I simply can’t wait to witness their magical endeavors!

In simpler terms, the new storyline for “Practical Magic 2” will aim to please fans of both the original books and the movie, while adhering to the order of events that have already occurred. As Di Novi put it, “We won’t be starting from scratch.”

Regarding the potential release year for the upcoming sequel, she disclosed that it’s most probable that it will come out around 2025, with an exact date yet to be determined as the project is still in its initial stages and has not yet secured a director.

Goldsman’s involvement in “Practical Magic 2” is welcome news considering his past connection to the franchise and his esteemed writing background. He has earned an Oscar for penning the screenplay of “A Beautiful Mind,” and has worked on projects such as “Batman Forever,” “Cinderella Man,” and most recently, Netflix’s “The Crowded Room,” featuring Tom Holland.

What is Practical Magic about?

In the 1998 movie “Practical Magic,” two sister witches named Sally and Gillian Owens grow up together under the care of their aunts Frances and Jet, after their parents pass away. Despite having contrasting personalities, the sisters share a strong connection as they face the challenges of adolescence while residing in the Owens family home, situated on an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Over time, the Owens sisters come to understand that they have inherited magical abilities, making the whispers about their ancestry as witches a reality. However, this revelation is only the beginning of their troubles. An ancient curse haunts them, denying each sister the chance for lasting happiness and love. Despite their best efforts, the partners of Sally and Gillian inexplicably meet untimely demises, leaving the sisters to seek explanations.

Among the actors who joined the production were Alexandra Artrip, Evan Rachel Wood, Stockard Channing, Aidan Quinn, Dianne Wiest, and Camilla Belle, along with others. Bullock and Kidman have confirmed their return for the upcoming project, but there’s been no update regarding the participation of the remaining cast members.
