‘They’re My Parents’: Chloe Chrisley Opens Up About Being Adopted By Julie And Todd Chrisley

As a devoted fan of the Chrisley family, I can’t help but feel a deep connection to their story. Listening to Savannah’s Unlocked podcast episode featuring her niece Chloe was an emotional rollercoaster for me.

In the latest episode of Savannah’s Unlocked podcast, Savannah Chrisley invited her niece, Chloe Chrisley, for a conversation. They talked about Chloe’s life since Julie and Todd Chrisley started serving their prison sentences. Chloe fondly recalled the day she was adopted by the Chrisleys, which she described as one of the most cherished moments in her memory.

Chloe Chrisley opened up on being adopted by Julie and Todd Chrisley

Chloe Chrisley, who is Todd Chrisley’s biological child with his son Kyle and Angela Johnson, became their adopted daughter in 2016. However, after Todd and Julie served prison time for tax fraud and evasion in late 2022, Savannah Chrisley was given custody of her siblings Chloe and Grayson.

In the latest installment of Savannah’s podcast, Savannah spoke with Chloe about her adoption experiences and family relationships. During their conversation, Savannah inquired as to why Chloe considered Julie and Todd as her parents. Chloe explained that this role had been assumed by them for a considerable time prior to the formal adoption process. Furthermore, Chloe emphasized that being around Julie and Todd left her feeling cherished and secure.

I can’t help but get excited whenever the topic turns to Chloe’s adoption day back in 2016. That day holds such a special place in my heart, it’s like reliving the most wonderful memories all over again. I still remember the poignant scene in the courtroom, where Todd’s tears flowed freely as we officially became a family. For Chloe, it was the best day ever, and who am I to argue? Savannah added to the nostalgia, recalling how Chloe wore her onesie under her nice dress for school that day, making pajama day even more special. Oh, what a beautiful memory that continues to bring joy to my heart!

Savannah pondered over their unique bond, recognizing the necessity of assuming both the role of a sibling and a parent. “Our connection is quite intriguing,” she shared, “as I must act as your parent at times, yet I am still your sister.” She continued, “We certainly have our disagreements, but the love between us is undeniable.”

Towards the end of the show, Chloe came to Savannah’s defense against detractors. “She does an excellent job,” Chloe declared. “If you have something negative to say, then maybe you shouldn’t listen to her podcast.”

Why are Todd and Julie Chrisley in prison?

Todd and Julie Chrisley, with monthly earnings of around $600,000 from real estate, masterminded a deceitful plan to obtain over $36 million in loans from banks in metro Atlanta using false details between the years 2007 and 2013. This fraudulent act came to an end right before their reality show, Chrisley Knows Best, debuted in 2013. During a three-week trial, federal authorities disclosed that the Chrisleys had been hiding their income in order to avoid paying approximately $500,000 in federal taxes for the tax year 2009.

In June 2022, Todd Chrisley, age 56, and Julie Chrisley, age 51, were found guilty in court of various offenses. They were both charged with tax evasion, conspiring to defraud the United States, and bank fraud, with Todd receiving an additional five counts of bank fraud. Julie faced extra charges for wire fraud and obstructing justice.

In November 2022, Todd and Julie were given prison sentences – Todd for 12 years and Julie for 7 years. They were also mandated to pay $17.2 million in restitution and relinquish an equal amount. However, their convictions were not without challenge. In June 2024, the Atlanta federal appeals court confirmed their guilty verdicts but decided that Julie required a new sentencing due to procedural errors. The court acknowledged her role in the fraudulent scheme which took place from 2007 to 2012.
