Valentine’s Day weekend brought a lot of different movies to theaters, including romantic dramas, funny animated comedies about sports, and intense crime thrillers. Because so many people went to see films, the list of the top ten highest-grossing movies changed quite a bit. Although some popular movies from previous weeks continued to do well, five brand new films competed for the top spot during the busy holiday weekend.
‘Melania’ (2026)

The new documentary from Amazon MGM Studios is facing challenges after a large drop in viewers during its third weekend. The film, directed by Brett Ratner, earned $886,000, which is a 62.3% decrease from last week. Although the biopic about the former First Lady initially generated excitement, it has now made a total of $15,432,071 domestically, and audience interest seems to be quickly fading.
‘Cold Storage’ (2026)

The new sci-fi horror film ‘Cold Storage’ opened in fourteenth place at the box office, earning $1.1 million from 1,041 theaters. Directed by Jonny Campbell and based on a novel by David Koepp (who also wrote the screenplay), the movie stars Liam Neeson and Joe Keery as they fight a dangerous, changing fungus inside a government building. With an average of $1,056 per theater, it appealed to fans of the horror genre. Although not a huge opening, ‘Cold Storage’ provides a darker alternative to the typical romantic movies released during the holidays.
‘The Housemaid’ (2025)

Paul Feig’s thriller, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, continues to be a hit with moviegoers even months after it came out, earning another $1.1 million this weekend and landing at number thirteen. Based on Freida McFadden’s popular novel, the film has now made over $125 million domestically. While ticket sales dipped by 34.7% this weekend, its performance in 1,140 theaters demonstrates its staying power. ‘The Housemaid’ is a significant financial success for Lionsgate, boosted by its popular stars and the well-loved original book.
‘Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie’ (2026)

Comedic duo Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol have brought their unique brand of humor to the big screen with a follow-up to their popular series. Released by Neon in a limited run, the film earned $1,250,000 from 365 theaters, averaging $3,424 per theater. The story follows the pair as they unexpectedly travel back in time to 2008, resulting in funny and relatable situations. This targeted release has successfully engaged their loyal fans.
‘The Strangers: Chapter 3’ (2026)

The latest ‘Strangers’ movie, directed by Renny Harlin, earned $2.275 million over the weekend, bringing its total domestic earnings to $6.95 million. However, the film, starring Madelaine Petsch, is performing below expectations compared to previous installments in the series. It experienced a 34.5% drop in ticket sales, likely due to competition from other horror films currently in theaters. While ‘The Strangers: Chapter 3’ is still playing in over 2,500 locations, it’s mainly attracting its existing fanbase.
‘Dracula’ (2026)

As a movie buff, I’ve been following the performance of Luc Besson’s take on the Dracula story, and it pulled in just over $3 million this past weekend. While that’s down about 32% from its opening, bringing its total earnings to around $9 million domestically, it seems to be finding its audience. People are really responding to Besson’s unique visual style and the film’s focus on the tragic romance between the characters, played by Caleb Landry Jones and Christoph Waltz. It’s a bit of a niche film, but it’s clearly resonating with those who appreciate gothic romance and a distinctive look.
‘Iron Lung’ (2026)

Markiplier’s movie, based on the horror game ‘Iron Lung’, earned $3.3 million, landing it at number nine in the box office charts. Considering its low budget, the film has been a huge success, bringing in a total of $34.1 million domestically. Even with a 45% decrease in ticket sales this weekend, it’s still playing in over 2,300 theaters, boosted by Markiplier’s large online fanbase. ‘Iron Lung’ demonstrates that movies made with the help of online influencers can be very profitable when they’re made with real enthusiasm for the horror genre.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ (2025)

As a huge movie fan, I’m still blown away by how well James Cameron’s latest ‘Avatar’ is doing! It just added another $3.3 million at the box office in its ninth week, bringing its total in North America to an incredible $396.1 million. What’s even more impressive is that even though it’s playing in fewer theaters now – around 1,650 – ticket sales only dipped by about 4%. It really proves that ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is a movie people still want to see on the big screen – it’s just a stunning visual experience!
‘Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die’ (2026)

Gore Verbinski’s new film, ‘Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die,’ is a sci-fi action comedy that debuted with $3.62 million in ticket sales. The movie, starring Sam Rockwell as a time traveler who enlists the help of everyday people to save the world, opened in seventh place at the box office. Playing in 1,610 theaters, it averaged $2,248 per location. Although the opening weekend numbers weren’t huge, the film stands out as an original story amidst a market saturated with sequels and established franchises.
‘Zootopia 2’ (2025)

Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2’ is still a huge hit with families, bringing in $3.76 million in its twelfth week in theaters. So far, the movie has earned over $419 million in the United States, making it one of the year’s most successful films. Despite new animated movies being released, ‘Zootopia 2’ remains popular, with ticket sales dropping by only 6.1%. This shows how strong the Disney brand is and how much audiences love the characters Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
‘Solo Mio’ (2026)

Kevin James’s romantic comedy earned $6.8 million, remaining in fifth place at the box office. After two weeks, the film – about a man finding himself in Rome after being left at the altar – has made $17.3 million overall. It performed well, dropping only 2.9% in ticket sales, likely boosted by Valentine’s Day moviegoers. ‘Solo Mio’ provides a lighthearted and family-friendly alternative to other films currently playing.
‘Send Help’ (2026)

The survival thriller directed by Sam Raimi and starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien earned $8.97 million this weekend, landing it at number four in box office rankings. So far, the movie has brought in a total of $47.9 million for Walt Disney Studios. Its box office numbers dropped by only 0.9%, suggesting positive reviews and recommendations are helping it succeed. The film skillfully combines Raimi’s trademark suspense with moments of dark comedy, proving popular with a wide range of viewers.
‘Crime 101’ (2026)

The new crime thriller from Amazon MGM Studios opened at number three in theaters this weekend, earning $15.1 million. Directed by Bart Layton and featuring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry, the movie is based on a story about a jewel thief and the detective trying to catch him. Playing in over 3,100 theaters, it averaged almost $4,800 per location. This successful debut indicates that viewers were excited to see a sophisticated, thrilling heist film with a star-packed cast.
‘GOAT’ (2026)

Sony Pictures’ new animated comedy, ‘GOAT’, had a very successful opening weekend, earning $26 million. The film, which features the voice of Stephen Curry, tells the story of a goat named Will who wants to play a sport called “roarball.” It came in second place, playing in 3,863 theaters and averaging $6,730 per theater. Its appeal to both sports fans and families made it the top choice for kids’ movies this weekend.
‘Wuthering Heights’ (2026)

Emerald Fennell’s fresh take on the classic story ‘Wuthering Heights’ opened at number one, earning an impressive $34.8 million on its debut weekend. The film, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, offered a stylish, modern spin on the gothic romance and attracted large audiences, averaging $9,451 per theater across 3,682 locations. Warner Bros. effectively promoted the movie as the must-see film for Valentine’s Day, resulting in strong ticket sales even though reviews were mixed. The success of ‘Wuthering Heights’ demonstrates that adapting classic literature can still be a box office hit with a talented director and popular actors.
