Sandra Bullock didn’t become a star immediately. In the early 1990s, she worked hard to gain experience, taking supporting roles in films with established actors. Surprisingly, during this period, she turned down significant roles in blockbuster franchises like Jurassic Park, Batman Forever, and the horror film Candyman.

Though she was already well-known, Sandra Bullock received significant critical acclaim in 2009 when she won an Academy Award for The Blind Side. She continued her success four years later with another Oscar nomination for her role in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2013 film, Gravity. This movie was a groundbreaking technical achievement, putting Bullock and George Clooney in a frightening fight for survival after a disaster leaves them stranded in space.

Filming the movie was extremely challenging, pushing Sandra Bullock to her physical and emotional limits. To create the effect of being in space, Bullock and George Clooney spent as much as ten hours a day strapped into a cramped machine.

The experience was very isolating, and they often received instructions through headsets, making it feel less like a normal movie shoot and more like a scientific experiment. Bullock later told Rolling Stone that the shoot was frequently frustrating, painful, and lonely.

She even jokingly said she sometimes wanted to harm the director and producer! Ultimately, she used those negative feelings – her “hate, anger, and rage” – to fuel her performance, hoping to convey that raw emotion to the audience.

All of her dedication truly shone through with the huge success of Gravity, which earned over $723 million worldwide. The film also swept the Academy Awards, winning seven Oscars, including awards for Best Director and Best Visual Effects. Even now, it’s considered one of the most captivating movies of the 21st century.

The popular actress, 61, is getting ready to reprise a beloved role in a new movie. She’s currently filming ‘Practical Magic 2’ with Nicole Kidman, almost 30 years after the first film became a fan favorite. The sequel, based on Alice Hoffman’s book ‘The Book of Magic’, is set to be released in theaters on September 11th and will also star Joey King and Lee Pace.
