Is Alys Rivers A Ghost In House of the Dragon? Succession Fame Andrij Parekh Explains

As an avid fan of House of the Dragon, I was absolutely thrilled to hear from Andrij Parekh, the brilliant director behind episode six of this captivating series. His recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter provided some intriguing insights into the show’s latest developments and his unique perspective on directing it.

In the sixth installment of House of the Dragon’s second season, titled “Smallfolk,” viewers were treated to several unexpected twists. A sudden blossoming romance, the emergence of a new dragon rider, and the introduction of a enigmatic figure kept audiences guessing. The excitement builds as we approach the final episodes with only two remaining to tie up loose ends.

In a recent interview, Emmy-winning Succession director Andrij Parekh discussed his role as HoD (head of department) and his work on episode six. As a new addition to the franchise, he brought his unique talent to the table. During the conversation, Andrij shed light on the enigmatic character Alys Rivers, revealing whether she harbors any secrets or is in fact a ghost.

What is Alys Rivers?

As a dedicated fan of “House of the Dragon,” I’ve been eagerly following the developments in season 2. The introduction of Alys Rivers, played by the talented Gayle Rankin, has certainly added an intriguing layer to the storyline. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Andrij Parekh fueled our curiosity when he hinted that Alys might not be entirely human.

Based on Andrij’s intriguing statement about Alys being “otherworldly,” I can’t help but feel drawn to this enigma and eagerly anticipate unraveling the mystery surrounding her. With a background in paranormal studies, my curiosity is piqued when someone hints at something beyond the ordinary. The next episodes hold the key to uncovering Alys’ true nature, and I can’t wait to explore this intriguing character further.

Andrij Parekh on filming House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 6

Andrij explained how the complex interactions among the characters in the script convey a significant message. He noted, “This episode focuses on Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent (Olivia Cooke) reaching their personal rock bottoms. Alicent is grieving over the loss of one son and being ousted from the Council.”

In addition, the speaker remarked, “Rhaenyra’s husband has abandoned her, leaving her utterly deserted and alone. She’s surrounded by men making their moves without much regard for her input. Both characters experience a profound sense of isolation. My task in this episode was to maintain the suspense of the unfolding events in King’s Landing and the looming war in Westeros. The atmosphere is thick with desperation and an ominous sense of impending doom, which is palpable in both camps. We have already witnessed the outcome of one battle; the upcoming war will be just as brutal.”

The director revealed his techniques from “Succession” that he applied to direct this episode. Andrij described his method for making actors appear lively: “Moving the camera around the table.” This occurs when the performers are unsure of the camera’s focus, resulting in authentic reactions and improvisation.

New episodes of House of the Dragon are out every Sunday at 9 pm on HBO and Max.
