‘Harry Potter’ Star Issues Warning to Fans Ahead of New Film Role

Rupert Grint, best known for playing the cheerful wizard Ron Weasley, is letting fans know his new movie is very different. In Nightborn, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, the 37-year-old actor takes on a much darker role.

The film follows Jon, a father who moves to a remote house in Finland with his wife, only to discover their baby is unusual. Directed by Hanna Bergholm, Nightborn is a disturbing horror story that explores the difficult emotional and physical challenges of becoming a parent.

Grint understands that audiences used to his role as Ron Weasley might be surprised by the film’s intense and unsettling content. He recently told Variety that it’s a significant shift from the friendly character he’s known for.

After a ten-year break from movies, Daniel Grint is returning to the big screen, with his last film role being in 2013. While he stepped away from films, he continued acting on television, notably in the thriller series Servant.

Grint credits the success of the Harry Potter films with giving him the financial freedom to choose projects he’s passionate about, and he’s very grateful for that opportunity. He says the films gave him the ‘gift’ of being able to carefully select the roles he takes.

Rupert Grint, despite the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, still cherishes his years playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. He recently showed his support for the new actor taking on the role, Alastair Stout, by sending him an encouraging letter.

While Grint admits there were times he wished for a more private life, he has no regrets about his career and enjoys meeting fans who grew up with the movies. He’s now choosing projects carefully, aiming for one fulfilling role each year.

His next big role is as Bob Cratchit in a dark, new take on A Christmas Carol, titled Ebenezer. The film, directed by Ti West and starring Johnny Depp as a dramatically different Scrooge, will be in theaters on November 13th.

The film Ebenezer boasts a stellar cast including Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, and Ian McKellen, and is set to be a darker and more atmospheric take on the classic Christmas story. Rupert Grint plays the hardworking and poorly paid Bob Cratchit, a role that will allow him to demonstrate his acting skills alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

Grint seems increasingly comfortable moving away from his well-known role as the “lovable kid wizard,” and is embracing more unusual and unsettling projects. From the frightening forests of Finland to the ghostly streets of Victorian London, Rupert Grint is proving he’s prioritizing compelling roles over simply taking on a lot of work after Harry Potter.
