As a lifestyle expert and avid fan of Sex and the City, I have closely followed Kim Cattrall’s career and her relationship with the show that made her a household name. After reading the recent news about rumors of her return to And Just Like That for season 3, I was filled with excitement at the prospect of seeing Samantha Jones back on my screen once again. However, my excitement was short-lived as Kim Cattrall herself has confirmed that she will not be returning to the show.
Kim Cattrall announced via her Instagram account that she won’t be coming back to play Samantha Jones in the next season of “And Just Like That.” Contrary to previous reports in Elle magazine, the actress will not join the show for its third installment.
In response to the media portal’s claims, Cattrall retweeted the article but added, “That’s really sweet of you, but I’m not a part of it.” In her 2023 interview with Today, the Sex and the City actress made it clear that she would not be participating in the third season.
What did Kim Cattrall say about her return to the upcoming season of And Just Like That?
After making a surprise appearance in season 2 of And Just Like That, there have been whispers that the famous actress might join the cast once more for season 3. However, Cattrall dispelled these rumors during an interview on The Today Show, stating clearly that she has no intention of reprising her role. Nonetheless, she expressed a deep attachment to her character, admitting, “I don’t believe I’ll truly let go of Samantha. She holds a special place among the various characters I’ve portrayed throughout my career.”
Cattrall shared, “I develop strong emotional bonds and feel deeply protective towards my character. I’m deeply grateful for what she’s given me.” For several years, there have been reports of tension among the Sex and the City cast, leading to Cattrall declining any collaboration on the franchise. However, her connection to Samantha Jones remains strong and iconic.

Samantha Jones’ presence in the two seasons of And Just Like That
Regarding Samantha’s character development, Cattrall explained how Samantha was prominently featured through text messages in the initial two seasons of “And Just Like That.” The actress added with a smile, “It was a subtle yet meaningful way to acknowledge the 25-year legacy of ‘Sex and the City.'”
She went on to explain, “This is a significant point in Carrie’s story when Samantha unexpectedly calls. Their conversation is heartwarming, filled with sentimentality and humor. It’s comforting and normal, and I’m pleased we were able to coordinate the timing and scheduling for this scene.”
Production on And Just Like That has started in New York City. The makers are set to share additional details about the upcoming series soon.
