Acclaimed Sci-Fi Sequel Tops Hulu’s Top 10 Most-Watched Movies List This Week

What people are watching on Hulu changes depending on new shows and movies added, what’s trending on social media, and big news about popular series. This week, we’re seeing a lot of viewers enjoying both classic 80s favorites and big superhero movies, as well as getting excited about upcoming releases. Some are revisiting feel-good romantic comedies, while others are following major science fiction storylines. Here are the titles currently getting the most attention from Hulu’s audience.

‘La Bamba’ (1987)

This movie tells the story of Ritchie Valens, a young rock and roll star who quickly became famous despite a difficult upbringing. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Valens, showing his journey to success with popular songs like “Donna” and his signature hit. The film highlights Valens’s connection to his culture and his complicated relationship with his half-brother, Bob, all while capturing the excitement of early rock and roll. The story ends with the tragic events of the 1959 plane crash that took his life.

‘He’s Just Not That Into You’ (2009)

This charming romantic comedy, inspired by a well-known self-help book, playfully examines the often confusing world of dating today. The story unfolds in Baltimore, following several characters whose lives intersect as they deal with miscommunication and unrealistic expectations in relationships. With a fantastic cast including Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, and Ginnifer Goodwin, the film offers a relatable and nuanced look at how people connect – and misconnect – with each other, exploring the reasons we justify our actions and the challenges of finding real intimacy. It’s recently become popular again as audiences enjoy feel-good movies.

‘The Help’ (2011)

This moving drama takes place in 1960s Mississippi and follows a young journalist who wants to tell the stories of Black women working as maids. The film powerfully portrays the racism and challenges faced by women like Aibileen and Minny during the Civil Rights era. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer give incredible performances, showing the bravery it took to speak up against injustice. The film was highly praised and earned several Academy Award nominations, with Octavia Spencer winning for Best Supporting Actress. Even today, its important message about fairness and understanding continues to resonate with viewers on streaming services.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (2022)

Following the success of the 2018 Marvel film, this sequel finds Wakanda’s leaders grieving the loss of their king, T’Challa. Queen Ramonda and Shuri step up to guide their nation through a difficult time, all while protecting it from outside interference. A new challenge arises with the introduction of Namor and Talokan, his powerful underwater kingdom, threatening Wakanda’s independence. The film honors the legacy of Chadwick Boseman and significantly expands the Marvel universe. It’s a compelling mix of heartfelt story and exciting action, which continues to draw in audiences.

‘Fool’s Gold’ (2008)

I recently watched this movie with Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, and it was a lot of fun! They play a divorced couple who end up working together to find a lost treasure – this incredible historical haul called the Queen’s Dowry, which sank way back in 1715. The whole thing is a really exciting adventure, but it’s also funny watching them try to avoid other treasure hunters and some shady characters while also trying to get along. They filmed it in beautiful coastal locations, so the scenery is amazing. Honestly, it’s just a great, lighthearted movie if you’re looking for some adventure and a little romance – I’d definitely recommend it!

‘The Mummy’ (1999)

In this popular late-90s adventure film, Brendan Fraser stars as Rick O’Connell, leading a team to the lost city of Hamunaptra. They accidentally revive Imhotep, a powerful and vengeful cursed priest. The movie expertly combines scares, thrilling action, and comedy for a quick-paced and exciting ride. It’s known for its impressive use of both real-life effects and computer graphics, making it a key film in the adventure genre. Recently, the movie has seen a surge in viewers, likely due to its charming cast and nostalgic feel.

‘Django Unchained’ (2012)

Okay, so “Django Unchained” is one of my favorites. It’s a Quentin Tarantino film, and it’s just so Tarantino – super stylish, a bit over-the-top, but brilliant. It’s basically a Western about Django, a former slave, who teams up with a German bounty hunter to rescue his wife from this truly awful plantation owner. The dialogue is incredibly sharp and witty, the action is intense, and the cast is amazing – Jamie Foxx is fantastic, Christoph Waltz steals every scene, and even Leonardo DiCaprio is chilling as the villain. It really digs into themes of revenge and the horrors of slavery, but with Tarantino’s unique storytelling. It was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike, and it even won a couple of Oscars, which it totally deserved.

‘Blended’ (2014)

Okay, so this movie is a really fun family comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. They play single parents who have a terrible first date, but then somehow end up on the same vacation at a resort in South Africa! They’re stuck sharing a suite and doing all these goofy group activities, which, naturally, forces their families to get to know each other. It’s a sweet story about blending families and finding love again. Plus, it’s the third time Sandler and Barrymore have worked together, and their chemistry is just fantastic – you can tell they always have a blast. Honestly, it being so popular just proves people always want a good, feel-good movie the whole family can enjoy.

‘Ella McCay’ (2025)

The new comedy-drama, directed by James L. Brooks, features Emma Mackey as a hopeful young politician balancing her career and personal life. It’s Brooks’ first film in over ten years, creating a lot of excitement in the movie world. With Jamie Burrows and Woody Harrelson also starring, this 21st Century Studios production is highly anticipated, and its strong position suggests audiences are eager for upcoming releases on the platform.

‘Predator: Badlands’ (2025)

As a huge sci-fi fan, I’m really excited about this new installment in the ‘Predator’ universe! Dan Trachtenberg, who did a fantastic job with ‘Prey’, is directing, and it sounds like he’s bringing a really fresh take to the story of humans versus these interstellar hunters. Elle Fanning is leading the cast, and from what I’ve heard, her role will really push the boundaries of what we’ve seen in these films before. They’re keeping the plot tightly under wraps, but the buzz is incredible – everyone’s talking about it! It’s clear the studio is really invested in expanding the ‘Predator’ franchise and introducing it to a whole new audience, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
